How to Watch Movies on IPad Offline

You are about to take a trip by plane or, in any case, you are about to go to a place where Internet access is not available and, therefore, you would like to find out how to watch movies on iPad without connection? No problem: you have tons of solutions at your disposal.

Streaming App

The streaming applications I told you about earlier, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, all allow you to download movies offline and watch them when there is no active internet connection. Just press the icon / button corresponding to the content of your interest, wait for the download to finish and then access your library, always within the application.

But be careful: very often, the content downloaded in streaming apps have an expiration date. Generally, we talk about 7 days overall, which become 48 hours after the first play. To learn more, check out my tutorials on how to download from Netflix and how to download movies from Prime Video.

Multimedia Players

As I also explained to you in my tutorial on how to upload movies to iPad, you can watch movies offline on iPad by copying them into the app Video or in that TV, via computer. This procedure, however, is quite cumbersome and, above all, does not allow you to play all file formats. In fact, through the default apps of the Apple tablet, only the videos in MP4, M4V e MOV.

In light of what has just been said, I recommend that you leave out the standard procedure for copying movies to iPad and rely on third party multimedia players, which allow you to play all major video file formats (including REVIEWS, MKV and others) and to copy files from the PC without going through iTunes or the macOS Finder: just connect iPad and computer to the same Wi-Fi network, open the browser on the PC and visit a particular page, which allows you to transfer videos to the memory of the tablet without making physical connections between devices.

There are many players available on the App Store, but in the free area I recommend you VLC, which I don't think needs any introduction: it is, in fact, the mobile counterpart of the famous player available on a computer. To use it, after downloading it from the App Store and starting it, select the tab Network (bottom), move up ON the lever placed in correspondence with the item Sharing via WiFi and visit, from your PC, the address indicated immediately below it (eg http: //ipad-di-tuonome.local).

At this point, drag the films to be copied on the iPad on the web page that opens and wait for the transfer to finish: you can enjoy your films on the tablet, simply by recalling them from the section Video by VLC. Convenient, right?

If you have more advanced needs, such as the need to play movies with Dolby / AC3 audio on iPad, you can turn to paid solutions, such as Infuse: I told you about it in more detail in my guide on how to put movies on iPad.

How to Watch Movies on IPad from USB Stick

With the advent of iPadOS (hence iOS 13), Apple has finally offered the possibility of using external storage devices on iPad. This means that by connecting a USB pendrive at the door USB-C o lightning of your tablet and opening the app Fillet, you can access the videos on the unit by simply selecting its name from the left sidebar.

To start watching a movie, if it is in a file format natively compatible with iPadOS (eg. MP4 o MOV), just press on his miniature. If, on the other hand, it is a file in an unsupported format, you will have to import it into another player, like the ones I recommended in the previous chapter.

Of course, if your stick doesn't have a USB-C or Lightning connector, you'll need a adapter or hub, such as those listed below.
