How to Uninstall Office 2013

Have you installed a trial version of Office 2013, which has now expired, and don't know how to remove it from your PC? You just tried uninstall Office 2013 but a strange error message prevents you from completing the procedure? Don't despair, one way or another I assure you that you will be able to remove the Microsoft suite from your PC.

The standard procedure to remove Office from your PC is to open the Windows Control Panel and select the item related to the software from the "Uninstall in program" menu, but you can do something even when this operation is not successful. Thing? Well, for example, you can download the utility for removing the suite from the Microsoft website or, in the most desperate cases, you can "manually" delete all files related to Office from your computer. It's a bit tedious, but it works.

In short, whatever the state of Office on your PC, try to follow the instructions below and you should finally be able to solve the problems related to removing the suite. The procedure is specific to the 2013 edition of Office, it is not suitable for the other editions of the software, while it is valid for all the most recent versions of the Windows operating system. Uninstall Office 2013 (standard Mode)

Let's start with the simplest operation, that is, from how to uninstall office 2013 from the Windows Control Panel.

Then click on windows flag located in the lower left corner of the screen and click on the icon Control Panel. If you don't see the control panel icon, search for the control panel in the Start menu search bar and click on the first search result.

In the window that opens, click on the icon Uninstall a program (located at the bottom left) and the list of all the software installed on the PC will open. If you do not see the above icon, type the term "uninstall" in the search bar located at the top right and click on the first search result.

At this point, select the item related to Microsoft Office 2013 in the list of applications installed on your computer and click on the button Uninstall which is located at the top. Reply Yes the warning that appears on the screen and wait for the removal procedure of the suite to be completed, it should take just a few minutes.

If you have installed Office through the service Office 365, deactivate the automatic renewal of your subscription by connecting to this web page and clicking on the appropriate item.

Forcibly Uninstall Office 2013

If the Office uninstallation procedure fails, you can force the suite to be removed from your computer using a free utility made by Microsoft. To download it to your PC, connect to this web page and click on the button Fix It which is located at the bottom.

A download completo, apri il file O15CTRRemove.exe you just downloaded to your computer and click on the button first Yes and then forward. So wait for the system status to be examined and click on the button Apply the fix to start the forced removal of Office 2013.

The procedure should take just a few seconds. To close the removal utility window, first click on forward and then Close. If you have installed Office through the service Office 365, deactivate the automatic renewal of the subscription by connecting to this web page and clicking on the appropriate option.

"Manual" Uninstallation of Office 2013

If you haven't been able to yet uninstall Office 2013 from your PC, take a "spin" in the folders I'm about to list and delete all the files in the suite.

Some items are hidden, so to see them you need to turn on display of hidden files and folders in the options of the Resource Explorer. If you don't know how to do it, read my tutorial on how to view hidden files, it's super easy.

Remove the Files from an MSI Installation of Office

If you installed Office 2013 using the suite installation disk (via MSI file then), look for the folders and files listed below and delete them following the instructions I am about to give you.

  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %windir%Installer. In the window that opens, find all the files named Microsoft Office xx 2013, right click on the latter and select the item Uninstall from the menu that opens. This will "manually" uninstall any leftover Office components left on your PC.
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command services.msc to access the service management menu. In the window that opens, right click on the item Office Source Engine and select the option Stop from the menu that appears to stop the Office Source Engine service (which, if running, will prevent you from deleting some files that we will see shortly).
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %CommonProgramFiles%Microsoft Shared. In the window that opens, find the folders Office15 e source Engine and eliminate them. If you are using a 64-bit operating system, you must use the command %CommonProgramFiles(x86)%Microsoft Shared instead of what I indicated earlier.
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %ProgramFiles%Microsoft Office. In the window that opens, find the folder Office15 and delete it. If you are using a 64-bit operating system, you must use the command %ProgramFiles(x86)%Microsoft Office instead of what I indicated earlier.
  • Go in Start > Computer (o Computer resources), access the folder C: > MSOCache > All Users and delete all folders whose name it contains 0FF1CE}- (if you have other hard drives besides C :, repeat the operation on the other drives as well).
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %appdata%microsoftdocument building blocks. In the window that opens, head to the folder Document Building Blocks and delete the file Building blocks.dotx.

Now you need to delete all Office related keys from the registry, but before proceeding I highly recommend that you make a backup of the registry and close all running programs. If you don't know how to backup the registry, follow my tutorial dedicated to the topic. Warning: an incorrect modification of the registry could seriously compromise the functioning of Windows. Follow the instructions I am about to give you carefully if you do not want to take unnecessary risks (or, better yet, get help from a more experienced user).

If you are ready to take action, press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command regedit to access the registry editor. At this point, locate the registry keys I'm about to list and delete them by right-clicking on them and selecting the item Delete give the menu to compare.

Remove Files from a "Click-to-Run" Office Installation

If you installed Office 2013 using Office 365 (in "Click-to-Run" mode), look for the folders and files listed below and delete them following the instructions I am about to give you.

  • Go in Start > Computer (o Computer resources). In the window that opens, choose the folder C:> Programs and delete the folder Microsoft Office 15 contained within it.
  • Start the Command Prompt as administrator (by right clicking on its icon in the Start menu and selecting the item Run as administrator from the menu that appears). In the window that opens, give the following commands to clear all scheduled Office tasks.

    • schtasks.exe /delete /tn "MicrosoftOfficeOffice 15 Subscription Heartbeat"
    • schtasks.exe /delete /tn "MicrosoftOfficeOffice Automatic Update"
    • schtasks.exe /delete /tn "MicrosoftOfficeOffice Subscription Maintenance"
  • Right click on the Windows taskbar and select the item Activity management from the menu that appears to start the Windows task manager. Then identify the processes listed below and terminals by pressing the appropriate button.

    • Officeclicktorun.exe
    • appvshnotify.exe
    • firstrun.exe
    • setup*.exe
  • Start the Command Prompt as an administrator. In the window that opens, give the following command to delete the Office service from Windows.

    • sc delete Clicktorunsvc
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %ProgramFiles%. In the window that opens, locate the folder named Microsoft Office 15 and eliminate it.
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command % ProgramData% Microsof. In the window that opens, locate the folder named ClickToRun and eliminate it.
  • Press the key combination Win + R on your computer keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command %ProgramData%Microsoftoffice. In the window that opens, locate the folder named FFPackageLocker and eliminate it.
  • Start the Command Prompt as an administrator. In the window that opens, give the following command to access the Office folder of the Start menu and delete its links.

    • % ALLUSERSPROFILE% Microsoft Windows Start Menu Programs. In the window that opens, select the Office 2013 folder and delete it.
  • Start the Command Prompt as an administrator. In the window that opens, issue one of the following commands to delete the local Microsoft Office Habanero and Habanero components from the PC.

    • MsiExec.exe / X {50150000-008F-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE} if you are using 32-bit Office on a 64-bit operating system.
    • MsiExec.exe / X {50150000-007E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} if you are using 32-bit Office on a 32-bit operating system.
    • MsiExec.exe / X {50150000-008C-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE} if you are using 64-bit Office on a 64-bit operating system.

Now you need to open the registry and delete all Office related keys. Before starting, close all running programs and back up the registry by following my tutorial dedicated to the topic. Warning: an incorrect modification of the registry can compromise the correct functioning of Windows. Follow the directions I am about to give you carefully or, better yet, get help from a more experienced user.

If you are ready to take action, press the key combination Win + R on your PC keyboard to call up the panel Run and type the command regedit to access the registry editor. At this point, locate the registry keys I'm about to list and delete them by right-clicking on them and selecting the item Delete give the menu to compare.
