How to Share Files with Google Drive

That's enough! To send attachments via email to share this or that file with your friends and co-workers you just can't stand it anymore. Despite your impatience at the moment, however, you have not been able to find a better solution to make documents, photos and anything else immediately available to you. If this is the case, however, I have good, indeed excellent news to give you: you can share files with Google Drive.

How do you say? don't know what Google Drive is? Well, let's fix it now! If you've never heard of it, know that Google Drive is the cloud storage service made available directly by Google. In short, it is a sort of virtual pendrive that you can use to store your files, such as photos or documents, but also easily share them with other users.

Having clarified this, if you are therefore interested in the thing and want to find out what you need to do to be able to share files with Google Drive, I suggest you get comfortable and take a few minutes of your precious time reading this guide. I am sure that at the end of you can tell you more than satisfied with the result and that you will also be ready to explain to all your friends what needs to be done in order to share files with Google Drive.

Before You Begin: Create a Google Account

Before explaining in detail what needs to be done in order to share files with Google Drive, it is good that you know one thing. In order to take advantage of the cloud storage service offered by Google and the features associated with it, it is necessary to have a Google account, the one that is also used to access Gmail. If you already have a Google account you can jump directly to reading the next paragraph while if you are not properly "equipped" I invite you to do so immediately. Once you have ascertained the fact that you have a Google account in order to share files with Google Drive, you have three different alternatives at your disposal. Depending on what your needs and preferences are, you can in fact share files with Google Drive by acting from the Web, from the computer or from your mobile device. The choice is yours alone.

Share Files with Google Drive from the Web

If you want to find out what you need to do to be able to share files with Google Drive and if it is not your intention to install new programs on your computer or download apps on your smartphone or tablet, know that you can also do this directly and conveniently from a web browser.

To share files with Google Drive, just click here to view the main page directly in the web browser in use, through which you can access the cloud storage service of the online search giant. Once the page is displayed, presses the blue button Go your Google Drive that you see in the center of the screen. If requested, enter the login data relating to your Google account and then wait a few moments for access to Google Drive.

To share files with Google drive proceed by pressing the button New of blue color which is placed in the upper left and then presses on the item Cartoon of file annessa to the menu che ti comes mostrato.

Then select the file on your computer that you want to share with other users and wait for the upload of the latter to Google Drive to be started and completed. Alternatively you can upload files to Google Drive too by dragging the item you intend to act on from your computer to the service window open in the web browser.

Now locate the file that has been uploaded to Google Drive in the browser window and press it with the right mouse button. From the menu that will be shown to you at this point, select the item Share… and type the name or email address of the person or people you want to share the selected file with via Google Drive.

Also click on the side menu to determine if the person or people you are about to share files with can make any changes or if you want them to be offered only the opportunity to comment or view. Then press the blue button end.

Once this is done, the people with whom you have chosen to share files with Google Drive will be informed of this by receiving a special e-mail message through which they can directly access what is shared. Furthermore, from the moment of the first access to the shared file, the latter will be accessible and visible directly in the Google Drive of the people previously selected through the section Shared with me.

If you want, you can also limit the scope of the users you share your files with by preventing them from changing their access, adding new people and / or downloading, printing or copying documents. To activate these restrictions, click on the item Advanced of the sharing box (bottom right) and put the check mark next to the items Prevent editors from changing logins and adding new people and / or Disable download, print and copy options for commenters / viewers. Then click on the button Save Changes to save the changes and that's it.

Please note that in order to share files with Google Drive as I have just indicated, it is essential that the people to whom you want to make a specific file accessible have a Google account. Otherwise, however, you have an alternative solution to share files with Googe Drive: shareable links.

To share files with Google Drive via shareable links, just press on the voice Get shareable link located in the upper right part of the window dedicated to selecting contacts with whom to share a file. Once this is done, you will be shown a link to copy which you can provide to anyone who wishes to share files with Google Drive.

To make sure that everyone can see the file you shared through the link, however, make sure that in the Google Drive window through which the link was provided to you, the item is selected Anyone with the link can see.

In addition to individual files through Google Drive you can also share entire folders of documents. To do this, just create a folder in Google Drive by pressing the button New located at the top left and choosing the item New folder from the menu that is shown to you. Then assign a name to the folder and wait for it to be visible in the main section of Google Drive.

Double-click on the folder you just created and then upload all the files you want to share following the procedure I indicated in the previous lines. Once the files have been uploaded, exit the folder and then presses on its icon with the right mouse button.

From the menu that will be shown to you at this point, select the item Share… and type the name or email address of the person or people you want to share the selected folder with via Google Drive. Also click on the side menu to determine if the person or people you are about to share the folder with can make any changes or if you want them to be offered only the opportunity to comment or view. Then press the blue button end.

Once this is done, the people with whom you have chosen to share the folder through Google Drive will be informed of this by receiving a specific e-mail message through which they can directly access what is shared. From the moment of the first access to the shared folder, the latter will also be accessible and visible directly in the Google Drive of the people previously selected through the section Shared with me.

Also know that also with regard to folders you can take advantage of shared links. To do this, just press on the voice Get shareable link located in the upper right part of the window dedicated to selecting contacts with whom to share a file. Once this is done, you will be shown a link to copy which you can provide to anyone who wishes to share the folder with Google Drive. To make sure that everyone can see the folder shared by you via link, however, make sure that the item is selected in the Google Drive window through which the link was provided Anyone with the link can see.

Share Files with Google Drive from Computer

If it is your intention to share files with Google Drive and you intend to do it directly from your computer, I suggest you take advantage of the official client of the service. The official Google Drive software has recently been updated and is now called Backup and Sync, since its new feature allows the cloud synchronization of the files on your PC. To download the official Google Drive client, connected to this web page and first click on the button Download Backup and Synchronization and then Accept and download.

Once the download is complete, run the Backup and Synchronization clicking on it, click Yes when required to run the software and to start downloading all the components necessary for the operation of Google Drive. The client installation will take place completely automatically.

Now wait for the download procedure of the Backup and Synchronization software to manage Google Drive from your computer to be started and completed. Note that you may be prompted to restart your computer.

If you use a Poppy, to install Google Drive you need to open the dmg package that contains the client, you have to copy it to the folder Applications macOS and you need to start it. From now on, the procedure you have to follow is almost identical on Windows and Mac.

Then press on Start and log in to your Google account and then follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of the client. Note that once you have logged into the service via your Google account, you will need to press Ok. You will then be directed to the screen My Laptop: eventually you can choose the folder (or folders) to be synchronized in the cloud and then press on OK.

Once installation is complete, you can also perform the file sharing procedure with Google Drive. If you are using a Windows computer press on Explore Resources and then click on the entry Google Drive from the sidebar of the window displayed in order to access the Google Drive folder. If you are using a Mac, press the icon of Finder annexed to Dock and then click on the entry Google Drive from the left sidebar of the window that is shown to you.

Now drag the file you want to share with Google Drive in the program window and then click on it with the right mouse button, choose the item Google Drive and then Share from the menu that is shown to you. Having done this, to share files with Google Drive from your computer, proceed by following the instructions I have given you in the previous lines as I have explained to you how to share files with Google Drive from the Web.

Share Files with Google Drive from IPhone, IPad and Android

If you intend to share files with Google Drive on the go, I suggest you use the special app available for iPhone and iPad and for Android smartphones and tablets.

If you have an iPhone or iPad and want to download Google Drive, press the icon App Store attached to the home screen of your device, tap the button Search placed at the bottom, type Google Drive in the search bar located at the top and tap on the first available search result. If you wish, you can speed up the execution of these steps by pressing here from your device in order to connect directly to the appropriate section of the App Store. Then press the button Get.

Wait for the app download and installation procedure to be started and completed, then press the button apri displayed on the screen to open the app immediately.

If you have an Android smartphone or tablet and you intend to share files with Google Drive, the first thing you need to do is access the Play Store by Google. To do this, look for the relevant icon on the home screen of your device and then press on it. Then click on the search field located in the upper right part of the new screen displayed, type Google Drive and then tap on the first available search result. If you wish, you can speed up the execution of these steps by pressing here from your device in order to connect directly to the appropriate section of the Play Store.

Then press the button Install, accepts the proposed conditions and waits for the application download and installation procedure to be started and completed. Then press on apri to access the application immediately.

Once logged into the app to be able to share files with Google Drive, all you have to do is select the element you want to act on and press the icon depicting the three points that is located at the top and then tap on the item Add people attached to the menu that is shown to you if the people you want to share the file with have a Google account while you choose the item Get link if you want to make the file accessible to other users as well.

Having done this, to share files with Google Drive from iPhone and iPad or from Android smartphones and tablets, proceed by following the instructions I gave you in the previous lines as I explained how to share files with Google Drive from the Web.

If you want, you can also share a file from an external application (provided it supports the sharing function). All you have to do is click on the icon of sharingselect Google Drive as the target app and continue as explained above.
