How to Recover Deleted Files from Mobile

Have you accidentally deleted a photo or video from your smartphone? Unfortunately it happens, but you don't have to despair. There are several solutions that allow you to recover deleted files from phones and that can remedy even the solutions that seem most desperate.

Stuff from "geeks"? Absolutely not, the ones I'm talking about today are extremely simple applications to use that don't require any advanced knowledge. If you want to know more, take five minutes of free time and find out how to recover files deleted from mobile with one of the solutions that I am about to tell you.

Whether you have an Android terminal or an iPhone you should be able to reach your goal in a matter of minutes, but obviously don't expect miracles. Data deleted for a long time are almost always unrecoverable, this is because the portions of memory on which they were hosted are occupied by other files, but acting in a timely manner you could be able to obtain more than satisfactory results. Recover Deleted Files from an Android Mobile

DiskDigger

You need recover deleted files from Android smartphone? Then I highly recommend you try DiskDigger, an application that installs directly on the phone and allows you to recover any type of file accidentally deleted from the memory of the terminal or from microSD cards (in the case of terminals with expandable memory). It is available in two versions: a free one that allows you to recover only photos in JPG and PNG format and a paid one (3,37 euros) which also supports music, PDF documents, Office files, APK applications and ZIP archives. Either way to work properly needs root. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read my guide on how to root Android.

DiskDigger does its job in an extremely and linear way. To start the search for deleted files, start it, grant it root permissions (by pressing the button Conceded that appears in the center of the screen) and if you are using the free version of the app, refuse the switch to the Pro by "tapping" the button No, thanks. Then select the partition to be scanned (it should be the one with the largest capacity marked in bold), put the check mark next to the items relating to the types of files to be searched (e.g. photos JPGvideo MP4 or documents PDF) and give theOK to start scanning. 

At the end of the procedure, to retrieve the data found by the app, put the check mark next to their previews and press the button Recover which is located at the top left. At this point you can decide whether to save the data on a cloud storage service or auto-send them via email (by pressing the icon of the nuvola), in a smartphone folder (by pressing the icon of the folder) or on an FTP server (by selecting the arrow).

PhotoRec

If your smartphone is equipped with expandable memory and you want to recover the data deleted from the microSD you can contact PhotoRec, it is a free and open source software that allows you to recover photos, videos, documents, compressed archives and other types of files from various types of units. It is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux but only on Windows it comes complete with a graphical interface (otherwise it must be used via the command line). It comes bundled with TestDisk, another free and open source software that allows you to recover lost partitions and make damaged disks bootable again, but that doesn't matter, for the moment you are only interested in PhotoRec.

To download PhotoRec on your computer, connected to the official website of the program and click on the item Windows located under the heading TestDisk & PhotoRec 7.0. Next, open thezip archive that you just downloaded on your PC, extract the contents into any folder and run the executable qphotorec_win.exe.

In the window that opens, expand the drop-down menu at the top to select the drive that contains your microSD (you can also use a USB or SD adapter), choose the primary partition of the device (it should be the one named FAT32FAT16 o exFAT) and put the check mark next to the items FAT / NTFS / HFS + / ReiferFS e Free

At this point, click on the button File formats and choose the file formats you intend to recover with PhotoRec. As already mentioned above you can choose between various types of photos (JPG, PNG etc.), video (mov/mp4/3gp/3g2/jp2), compressed archives and much more. To reset the default selection of PhotoRec click on the button Reset.

Once you have made your choice, click on the button OK, then presses on KATEGORIEN, choose the folder in which to save the data recovered from the microSD and start the data recovery by clicking on the button Search. All the files recovered by the program will be automatically saved in the folder you chose just now.

Useful Tips

  • If you have deleted a photo or video and use Google Photos as a photo management app, maybe you can recover your data without resorting to external solutions. Google Photos, in fact, moves the photos and videos deleted from the smartphone into a sort of trash that allows you to recover them for a period of 60 days. To view the contents of the Google Photos trash, open the application, press thead icon hamburgercollocata in alto a sinistra and selects the voice Trash can from the bar that appears on the side. Then put the check mark next to the images to be recovered and "tap" on the icon arrow to move them back to your smartphone gallery.
  • If you have created a backup of your smartphone using the application provided by the manufacturer of the device (eg. Smart PC for Samsung phones), you can take advantage of the latter's reset functions to recover the data of your interest. Recover Deleted Files from an IPhone

EaseUS MobiSaver

Be vuoi scoprire how to recover files deleted from mobile and own a iPhone, you can rely on EaseUS MobiSaver. It is an application for Windows and Mac that allows you to recover accidentally deleted files from iPhone and all other Apple portable devices by performing a direct scan of the device or by extrapolating data from iTunes and iCloud backups. I tell you right away that recovering files directly from the device memory is very difficult, but if you have created backups with iTunes or iCloud you have a good chance of recovering your files.

The program is available in two different versions: a free one with no time limits which, however, allows you to save only one multimedia file (or five contacts) at a time and a paid one which costs $ 59,95.

To download EaseUS MobiSaver Free on your computer, connect to the program's website and first click on the button Free download and then Download. When the download is complete, double click on it to open the file you just downloaded (ems_free.exe) and, in the window that opens, first click on Yes and then OK e Next. Then accept the conditions of use of the program, putting the check mark next to the item I accept the agreement, and click your cousin Next twice in a row and then on install Finish to finish the installation process and start EaseUS MobiSaver Free.

If you are using a Mac, you can download the version of EaseUS MobiSaver Free for OS X by connecting to the application's website, placing the check mark next to the item Poppy (on the right) and clicking on the button free Download. When the download is complete, open the dmg package containing the app and drag the icon EaseUS MobiSaver Free in the folder Applications in OS X.

To recover deleted files from your iPhone, connect the device to your computer using the supplied Lightning / Dock cable, launch EaseUS MobiSaver and select the source you want to extract data from: Recover from iOS Device to scan your device directly, Recover from iTunes Backup to extract data from iTunes backups on your PC or Recover from iCloud Backup to extract files saved in iCloud backups (online). Then click on the green button Scan located next to your iPhone name (on the right) and wait for the scan to finish.

When MobiSaver finishes checking your device (or the backup you selected), use the links in the left sidebar to choose the type of file to recover: Photos/Videos for images and movies, Contacts for contacts, Messages for SMS, WhatsApp for WhatsApp conversations, Calendar for events saved in the calendar and so on. Then put the check mark next to the items to restore, click on the button Recover located at the bottom right and select the folder to export them.

Useful Tips

  • Photos and videos deleted from iPhone are stored in a sort of recycle bin where they remain for 40 days. To restore them, all you have to do is open the application Photos, select the tab Album which is at the bottom right and go to the album Recently deleted. So press the button Select located at the top right, put the check mark next to the thumbnails of the images or videos to be restored and "tap" on Recover to complete the operation.
  • If you have deleted a file that you had stored on iCloud Drive, you can retrieve it via the iCloud website. All you have to do is log in with your account, click on you don't know at the top right and select the item ICloud settings from the menu that appears. On the page that opens, select the item Restore files located at the bottom left, choose the files you want to recover and press the button Restore to complete the operation.
