In the computer world, it can happen that operations considered simple by most turn out to be complicated for others. How to Pass Files from PC to PC Via Wi-Fi

You wish to know how to pass files from PC to PC via Wi-Fi, so as not to have to resort to USB sticks and similar devices? Know that you can use both some very useful features built into Windows, as well as some great third-party solutions. Find everything explained below.

Sharing Files on Windows 10

Have you upgraded your PC to Windows 10 and, given that the HomeGroup function has been removed on the latter (much used in the days of Windows 7 and Windows 8.x), you don't know how to share files between two or more PCs? I guarantee you have no reason to worry, you can still share files by taking advantage of the sharing options included in the latest version of Microsoft's operating system.

For share files over the network on Windows 10, you must first locate the file you want to share, right click on it and then select the items Give access to> Specific users from the menu that opens. Alternatively, open theFile Explorer, select the file you intend to share on the network by left clicking on it, open the tab Share located at the top and, from the section Share with, select Specific users and then choose the users to share the selected files with.

If you ever need to stop sharing files and folders on Windows 10, all you have to do is right click on a file and select the items Give access to> Remove access from the menu that opens. Alternatively, you can stop sharing a file over the network by opening theFile Explorer, selecting the file you no longer want to share, select the tab Share located high and then press on Rimuovi access from the section Share with.

There are also "alternative" ways to share files on Windows 10. One of these is to share them through applications: to do this, open theFile Explorer, select the file you intend to share by left clicking on it, open the tab Share located at the top, presses the button sharing and, from the list that is shown to you, choose the application with which to share the selected file (eg. Mail, Telegram, Etc.).

HomeGroup (Windows 7/8 / 8.x)

Are you using an older version of Windows? If so, you can use the feature Home Group present on Windows 7/8 / 8.x (as I told you in the previous chapter, on Windows 10 this function was removed in 2018, after the release of the1803 update), which allows you to create shared folders between computers that are part of the same group.

I guarantee you that activating this very useful feature is not complicated at all, but before explaining how to proceed, make sure that the PCs you want to make "communicating" with each other are connected to the same wireless or cable network (if not, you can find useful information on how to proceed by reading the guide on how to connect two PCs), since this is the fundamental prerequisite for creating the home group.

After verifying that the PCs are connected to the same home network, open the Control Panel (all you have to do is type "control panel"In the Windows search bar and click on the first occurrence that is found). In the window that opens, click on the item Rete and Internet, click on the item Home Group to start setting up a sharing network and, in the window that opens, click on the item Create a homegroup to start the wizard for creating the home group. So put the check mark on the various types of files you want to share (eg. ImagesVideo, etc.) and then presses the button Forward.

Now you should see the password that you will then need to use to access the home group from the other PCs connected to the same network: photograph it with your smartphone or write it on a sheet of paper or on an electronic note and then press the button end per portare to finish l'operazione.

On the other PCs connected to the home network, then, go to Control Panel> Network and Internet> Home Group and, in the window that opens, presses the button Participate now to run the wizard through which to access the shared folders of the PC you previously configured and, as soon as you are asked to do so, enter the password of the Homegroup that was shown to you on the “first” PC (and which you should have photographed or saved to the clipboard).

Mission accomplished! From this moment the PCs are connected to each other and can be used to share files on the network: to do this, all you have to do is reach the individual network folders, which you can find by opening any folder of theWindows Explorer  of Windows and pressing on the voice Home group, in the sidebar located on the left. If you want, you can also share individual files by right clicking on them and selecting items Share with> Homegroup (view) /Homegroup (view and edit) from the menu that opens. Easier than that ?!

If any of the steps are unclear to you and you would like more information on how to create a Homegroup, take a look at the guide in which I show how to synchronize folders with Windows: I am sure it will be very useful.

Other Useful Solutions

In addition to the solutions I mentioned earlier, there are others that you would do well to consider to pass files from one PC to another. One of them is Send Anywhere, a wireless file transfer service that is extremely easy to use and, what's more, is available on multiple platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

The transfer of files through this service is done using numeric codes, which means that you will not have to go through tedious registration procedures to use them. You can use it for free either by using its Web version, or by installing its official client. Before explaining in more detail how to use it, I would like to tell you that its free version allows you to load up to a maximum of 10GB of data in 48 hours. To break this limit and to unlock all Send Anywhere features, a subscription to the Plus subscription is required, which starts at $ 5,99 per month.

To use it, you simply need to open your browser (eg. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) on the PC containing the files you want to share with other users, connect to the Send Anywhere site, press the button Send (+), select the file you want to switch to the other PC and press the red button Send to obtain the numeric code by which to receive the file on the other computer.

On the other PC (the one where you want to pass the file), then, connected to the Send Anywhere site and, in the text field Input key located in the box Receive, type il Numerical code to six digits that you have previously obtained, then presses on the symbol of arrow facing down and, as if by "magic", the file will be downloaded in a few moments. Easier than that ?!

SendAnywhere is certainly not the only service through which you can transfer files wirelessly. There are tons of others you can use for this purpose. Below you will list a few others.
