How to Open Xlsx Files

A friend sent you a file XLSX via email and can't open it? Do not worry. XLSX documents are nothing more than Excel spreadsheets distributed using the Office Open XML introduced by Microsoft in Office 2007. It is a much more advanced format than the classic XLS, which ensures greater compatibility with third-party applications and includes additional functions. Now, however, let us not dwell too much on technical discussions and return to the gist of the matter.

To view XLSX files (and edit them) it is recommended to use Microsoft Office, and especially Office 2007 or later, but in reality you can also turn to the old Office 2003 or, better still, to alternative productivity suites such as LibreOffice and OpenOffice. But it doesn't stop there! XLSX files, you need to know, are also compatible with a wide range of online services and applications for smartphones and tablets. In short, you just have to be spoiled for choice!

If you want to know more and want to find out how to open XLSX on computers, smartphones and tablets, take five minutes of free time and try to take a look at the software (and online services) that I'm about to recommend. Regardless of the device and operating system you use, I assure you that you will find something that is right for you!

Open XLSX Files on PC

From Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, there are several solutions that allow you to open XLSX files on the computer. Choose the one that seems most suitable for your needs and use it following the instructions I am about to give you.

Microsoft Excel (Windows / Mac)

If you need to open (or create) particularly elaborate XLSX files, I feel I can advise you Microsoft Excel which unfortunately is not free, it cannot be purchased separately from the other applications of the Office package, but it is the only application able to guarantee the absolute absence of errors in the reproduction of these documents (which are often created with Excel ).

As mentioned, Excel isn't free, but there is a way to try it for free for 30 days. If you activate a subscription to the service Office 365 Home which for 10 euros / month allows you to use all the applications of the Office package on a maximum number of 5 computers, 5 tablets and 5 smartphones (in addition to including 1TB of space on OneDrive and 1 hour of conversations on Skype for 5 users), you can try Excel and all the other Office package software for one month free of charge with no obligation to renew. The only precaution you must have is to disable the automatic renewal of the subscription, which otherwise would lead to a charge of 10 euros on your credit card, current account or PayPal (at the time of signing up for the subscription you will be asked to provide a method valid payment) at the end of the 30th trial day.

In reality, a cheaper version of Office 365 is also available, which costs 7 euros / month and limits the use of apps and services to a single user, and the standard version of Office without subscription services (with one-time payment), but unfortunately neither of them offers the possibility to try Excel or other applications for free.
