In the course of this guide I will explain how to open the files in question from your PC and Mac and also how you can do this via your Android or iOS smartphone. Are you ready to get started? I wish you a good read.

Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows / MacOS)

Among the many programs that allow you to view a file in PDF format, I suggest you opt for the very famous Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software, in addition to allowing you to view the content of a PDF, will also allow you to perform some important basic operations, such as signing a digital document.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is available completely free via its official website for operating systems with Windows and macOS. After you have connected to the website I have provided, click on the yellow button Install adesso, located in the lower right.

Before pressing that button, keep in mind that, from the moment Adobe is partnering with other companies, you will be offered optional offers in the central column that you can very well deactivate, by removing the check mark on the relevant boxes. When you have decided whether or not to install the additional software, click on the button mentioned above to start the download and installation procedure of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Then start the software, via the icon on your Desktop or on the MacOS Launchpad. On the main Adobe Acrobat Reader screen, locate the menu bar, which is located at the top and click on the item Fillet. From the drop-down menu, then click on the item apri and browse the folders on your computer to locate the PDF file you want to open.

You can, as an alternative to this procedure, double-click the PDF file you want to open. This will immediately open the Adobe Acrobat Reader program and you can then view the contents of the file.

However, it may happen that maybe the PDF does not open automatically with this program; in this case it means that you do not have the association of PDF files with Adobe Acrobat Reader. To solve, if you are using Windows, right-click on the PDF file to open and select, from the context menu, the item Property. At the entry Open with, you should find the name of the program currently used for opening PDF files (which will not be Adobe Acrobat Reader).

Then click the button next Change and from the list select Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not see Adobe Acrobat Reader on the screen, click on the word Other apps and, if it still doesn't appear, click Look for another app on this PC.

On macOS, however, the procedure to assign an application to a file extension is as follows: right-click on the PDF file to open; click on the item Get information and, from the window, locate the item Open with. Then select from the drop down menu Adobe Acrobat Reader and by clicking on the button Edit everything, followed by the button Continue.

Web Browsing Browser (Windows / MacOS)

Nowadays, almost all browsers, integrate within them a functionality for viewing PDF files directly online, without the need to download. If you have a PDF file directly on your computer, you can then decide to open it with your favorite browser and view its contents.

Obviously, only if you need a basic software for only viewing the contents of a PDF file, the navigation browsers can do for you; if you are looking for something more complete, with additional features, you will necessarily have to rely on something else.

Before starting, I want to remind you to keep your Web browser updated, to always have the latest version available, so as not to have problems in the procedures that I will indicate in the next lines.

To open a PDF file with your browser, you have a few options. Let's start first with the simplest operation you can perform. Navigate to the destination folder of the PDF file and open your browser as well. Now drag the file with the mouse inside a browser navigation tab, so as to immediately open it.

You can also decide to open the file without dragging it; you can in fact right-click on it and, from the context menu, select the item Open with. You will then have to click on one of the browsers that will appear or, if none appear, click on Choose another app (Windows) or Other (macOS).

If, on the other hand, you want to finalize the association of PDF files with your browser, right-click on the PDF file and select the item Property. Then click the button Change, corresponding to the item Open with, taking care to select the item that corresponds to your navigation browser. If it doesn't appear in the list, click Other apps and, if necessary, also click on Look for another app on this PC.

On macOS, on the other hand, you can associate a PDF file extension to your browser, by right-clicking on the PDF file and then clicking on Get information. You will then have to select from the drop-down menu, corresponding to the item Open with, your browser. Finish by clicking on Edit everything and then on Continue.

Adobe Acrobat Reader (Android/iOS)

If you want to open a PDF file on your mobile device instead, then you'll be glad to know that Adobe Acrobat Reader continues to be a solution that is right for you. Indeed this software is available for free also for Android and iOS.

The first step you will need to perform is to download the app on your device. Then use the links I provided to access the Store of your device directly on the Adobe Acrobat Reader page. Then tap the button Get and then Install on iOS. On Android, however, tap the button Install and then Accept. After the app has been successfully downloaded and installed on your device, tap on apri.

Scroll the home screen to view the app's initial tutorial and then tap on Start, so you can start using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

On Android, from the home screen Documents, you can view PDF files that you can open on your device. Through the tab Recent, you can view all the files you have recently opened through the application, so you can always have them at hand. You can select a file from your device's memory by tapping the button with the folder symbol, which you can find at the bottom right.

On iOS, on the other hand, tap on Recent, placed at the top, and then tap on Other routes. You can then import the PDF file from your cloud or select one of those already downloaded.

You can also decide to open files from dropbox and from Cloud Adobe, through the related items present directly within the app.

iBooks and Preview (macOS / IOS)

On Apple devices, be it iPhone, iPad or Mac, there is a pre-installed app for viewing PDF files.

This app is called Preview and will allow you to view the content of PDF files in a simple and immediate way. But you can also use another one, also created by Apple, called iBooks, which will offer you additional features, such as bookmarks and a better viewing mode.

On macOS, you can simply right-click the PDF file and click Open with; you will then have to select iBooks (o Preview) from the list to open the PDF file.

You can also associate the PDF file with this Apple app by right clicking on the PDF file, followed by clicking on the item Get information. Then select from the drop-down list, which you will find next to the item Open with, the voice iBooks (o Preview). Then click the button below Edit everything > Continue, so as to associate all PDF files.

On devices with iOS, however, you can download iBooks for free via the App Store. After opening the PDF file, perhaps via the app Preview, tap the share icon (symbol of a square with an arrow) and select the item April in iBooks. The file will then be automatically imported into the iBooks app for viewing via this app.

You can alternatively download the free app from the App Store Fillet, also made by Apple, to view all the documents on your device.

You will then have to make a long press on the preview of the PDF file you want to open and, once you have lifted your finger, select from the small dark cloud that you will see the item Share (you will find it by tapping on the freccia verse destra twice). Then select April in iBooks to view your PDF file.
