No. It's not possible, there must be someone here plotting behind your back! After so much insistence, your friend has finally sent you those documents that you have been requesting for weeks, but the archive in which they were compressed has turned out to be corrupt: it reaches 99% of the extraction and then an error message appears that does not allows you to view the files inside. Damn! Here we need an exorcist ... indeed, no. It takes someone to explain to you how to open a damaged store and that someone (guess what?) is me.
If you allow me a few minutes of your precious time as well as your attention, I can in fact show you, in a simple but at the same time detailed way, how to succeed in the enterprise, both on Windows and on Mac. All you need is of the specific programs used precisely for the purpose in question. Whether the archive you intend to act on is in ZIP, RAR or other format makes no difference. The resources I am about to tell you about are capable of acting on all the most common compressed file formats. Moreover, they are quite simple to use even by those who, a bit like you, do not really consider themselves a great expert in terms of new technologies.
Then? May I know what are you still doing standing there? Position yourself comfortably in front of your trusted computer and immediately begin to focus on reading this guide. I am sure that in the end you will be able to tell yourself very happy and satisfied with what you have learned and that if necessary you will also be ready to provide useful tips on what to do to all your acquaintances. But now just chat and let's move on to the actual action. I wish you, as usual, good reading (and good work)!
DiskInternals ZIP Repair (Windows)
The first useful resource I want to tell you about is DiskInternals ZIP Repair. It is a free program specific for Windows operating systems that, as the name implies, allows you to repair damaged or corrupt ZIP archives and easily recover the files present in them. It looks like a wizard to follow step by step and allows you to fix even many of those situations that seem desperate. Try it and you won't regret it.
The first step you need to take is to download the program to your PC. To do this, connect to the website of the same and click on the button GET IT FREE which is at the top right. When the download is complete, open the executable file you just downloaded by double clicking on it, click on Si e, nella finestra che si apre, fai click sul pulsador Next.
Then accept the conditions of use of the program by clicking on the button I Agree, and click once more Next, Then install and subsequently on Finish to finish the installation process and start DiskInternals Zip Repair.
In the software window that you see appear on the screen at this point, click on the button Next to start the repair wizard for damaged ZIP archives. Then press the button Browse ... placed under the heading Corrupted file to select the archive to be repaired, on the button Browse ... placed under the heading Repaired File to select the folder to save the repaired version of the ZIP file and click Next twice in a row to start repairing the archive.
If everything went the right way, once the procedure is completed (the timing varies according to the size of the archives: the heavier they are, the longer it takes to recover them!) The program will show you a message stating that the archive was successfully recovered. It was easy, wasn't it?
To close DiskInternals Zip Repair and directly open the repaired ZIP archive, put the check mark next to the item Open the archive after the wizard is closed and click on the button Finish.
ZIP File Repair (Windows)
As an alternative to the above program and always for what concerns the Windows side only, you can contact ZIP File Repair. This is another useful software for recovering ZIP-compressed archives that are damaged or corrupted. It is highly effective and very easy to use but it is paid, although it can be downloaded and used at no cost for a trial period. I suggest you use it immediately, especially if the program I mentioned in the previous lines was not able to have the desired effect.
To download the trial version of ZIP File Repair on your computer, connected to the program's website, select the tab Office & Windows which is at the top and presses the button Download FREE TRIAL that you find in correspondence with ZIP File Repair.
Now fill out the form that is shown on the screen by typing your name and your email address in the appropriate fields then enter the security code that you find at the bottom in the empty field below and click on the button Submit. The download of the software installation file to your computer will then start immediately.
Once the download is complete, open the executable file you just obtained by clicking on it and then put the check mark next to the item I accept the terms in the License Agreement in the window you see appear on the screen and presses the button install. Then click on Si and then press the button Finish.
Now, start the program by double clicking on its icon that has been added to the desktop (or invoke it from Start menu) and through the window that will be immediately shown to you select the damaged ZIP file on your computer that you intend to recover. The file recovery process will then be started (the duration is variable and also depends on the weight of the selected archive).
Once completed, you can open the corrupt archive by pressing the button [+] present next to its name in the left part of the program window, selecting the reference subfolder, checking the box next to the files you want to recover on the right side of the software screen, pressing the button with the floppy disk which is in the toolbar at the top and indicating the position in which to save everything. It was simple, wasn't it?
If you prefer, you can also open a damaged archive through a simple alternative wizard proposed by the program. To start it, click on the button with the Magic wand which is in the toolbar at the top of the software window, presses the button Recover, select the reference file, click on Next twice, then on Start and to conclude on Done.
Recovery Toolbox (Windows)
If the damaged or corrupt archive that you need to open is not in ZIP format but is a RAR, the tools I have reported to you in the previous lines are not suitable. You can, however, try using Recovery Toolbox, a software for Windows that is able to act on this type of file. However, it is not a cost-free resource but it is possible to download and use the trial version which is free and functional for a limited period of time.
You ask me how to use it? I'll point it out to you immediately. First, link to the program download page and click on the green button Download. Then start the executable file obtained, press on Si and then on Next.
Select quindi la voce I accept the agreement to accept the conditions of use of the software and press again on Next for four consecutive times then press on install and to conclude press on Finish.
Now that you see the Recovery Toolbox window on your desktop, press the button with the gialla poster that knows on the left and select the corrupt RAR file you want to recover then click the button Next placed at the bottom and wait for the selected archive to be processed by the program (the duration is variable, it also depends on the weight of the archive).
Then select the reference archive on the left, check the box next to the name of the files you want to recover on the right (to select them all press the button Check all which is sin low) then press on Next, indicate the location on your computer where you want to save the files that have been recovered and that's it.
EaseUS Data Recovery (Windows/Mac)
Although not specifically designed for opening damaged or corrupted archives, another program that in my opinion you should consider is EaseUS DataRecovery. It is a software available for both Windows and Mac, very easy to use and extremely versatile. In fact, not only is it able to intervene on compressed archives (ZIP, RAR, SIT etc.) but it also allows you to act on many other types of files. It is at no cost but allows you to recover up to a maximum of 2 GB of data. To overcome this limit (if necessary) you have to switch to the Pro version, which is paid and also offers other features.
To use it, connected to the program's website, click on the button Scarica free and wait for the software download to start and complete. Then start the executable obtained, click on Si, its OK and forward then press on Accept, its Confirmation and Install and leads to the setup remains by pressing on Complete.
If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac, connect to the program's website via the link I gave you a moment ago, click on the link Mac version present under the download button and then click the button Free trial in the center of the new web page that has opened. Then open the .dmg file obtained, drag the EaseUS Data Recovery icon to Applications and then start the program by right clicking on its icon in Applications and selecting apri twice in a row (in this way it will go around limited Apple taxes on unauthorized developers).
Now, regardless of the operating system in use, select the location on your computer where the corrupt or damaged archive you wish to recover is saved, press on Scan and wait for the procedure to be started and completed, then select the item of your interest from the list on the right and press on Recover.
Finally, indicate the location on your computer where you want to save the recovered files and click the button Bene. Done! Please note that the original archive, i.e. the corrupt one, will neither be removed nor overwritten.
Online Office Recovery (Online)
To conclude, as they say, I want to talk to you about Online Office Recovery, a Web service running on any operating system without the need to install anything on the computer in use and thanks to which it is possible to open a damaged or corrupted archive by acting on all the most common compressed file formats, directly and comfortably from browser window. It also works with other file types but I don't think you care at the moment.
The only negative note, if we want to define it that way, is that to open the files extracted from the archives you have to buy special passes. Otherwise, it is only possible to download a demo which however may be sufficient to get an idea about the contents of the compressed archive.
To use it, first connect to the home page of the service and then click on the button Open file… / Choose file and select the compressed file in relation to which you intend to intervene. If the file is protected by a password, press the link Click here and type the relevant secret word in the blank field displayed.
So press on the button Safe charging and repair located at the bottom, wait for the whole procedure to be started and completed (the duration depends on the size of the file and the speed of your Internet connection) then you can choose whether to download the demo version of the file or whether to purchase a pass to payment (and then open the corrupt file without limitations) by clicking on the relevant links that you see appear.
