How to Open a Rar File Online

Do you need to open a RAR file on your school or office computer but the restrictions imposed by the system administrator do not allow you to install a suitable application? No problem, just open your web browser and use an online service. Well yes. If you have a good Internet connection or in any case if the archives you need to extract are not overly "heavy", you can bypass the use of programs for managing them and discover how to open a RAR file online. A great convenience!

To do this, you can use any web browser (for example the one you generally use to surf the net) and any operating system. No particular technical skills are required in terms of computer science and new technologies and it doesn't take too long either. In short, it doesn't get better than this. If the thing interests you, then continue reading this tutorial dedicated to the subject, together, I can assure you, we would see some good ones.

Ah, I almost forgot, for the sake of completeness of information, at the end of the guide I also proceeded to insert a passage dedicated to what are the "classic" computer programs to be used for opening compressed archives. In this way, restrictions are excluded and if despite the use of the online tools I am about to tell you about, you still prefer to resort to more "traditional" resources, you will already know which software to use, both on Windows and on Mac. Now, however, just chat and let's take action. I wish you, as usual, happy reading and I wish you a big good luck for everything.

B1 Online Archiver

The first service I recommend you try to be able to open a RAR file online is B1 Online Archiver. It allows you to extract the files contained not only in RAR archives but also in ZIP, 7Z and various other formats, all totally free and, of course, without installing any program on the PC. It works with all major web browsers and operating systems and the maximum supported file size is 300 MB.

To decompress a RAR file using it, linked to its main page, click on the button Click here which is in the center and selects the archive to extract. Then wait for the file to be processed (the duration of the procedure depends on the size of the selected RAR archive) after which a page will open with a list of all the elements extracted from it.

To download the files extracted from B1 Online Archiver to your PC, all you have to do is click on the icon with the blue arrow placed next to their name. If you have not made any changes to the default browser settings, the files contained in the compressed archive will be automatically saved in the folder Download Of computer.

The documents will then be automatically deleted from the service servers within a few days. If you prefer, you can still delete them at the moment by clicking on the link click here which is located at the bottom right.

Unzip-online.com

Another good service you can rely on to open a RAR file online is Unzip-online.com. It's free and supports both RAR archives and ZIP archives of 200MB or less in size. Like B1 Online Archiver, it works with all major web browsers and operating systems, without requiring software installation on your computer. Furthermore, the documents uploaded to the service are automatically deleted within 24 hours. Put it to the test now and you will see that you will not regret it.

To use Unzip-online.com, connected to the main page of the service and click on the button Uncompress files, by your complaint Open File / Choose File to select the RAR archive to extract and then press again on uncompress files to kick off the actual procedure.

Then wait for the file to be processed (the duration of the thing will depend on the weight of the selected archive) and click on the names of the extracted elements to download them to your PC. Even then, if you have not made any changes to the prevented settings of the web browser you are using, the downloaded files will be saved in the folder Download from your computer.

WOBZIP

Did the above resources not convince you in a particular way and are you looking for another alternative? Then try WOBZIP. It is in fact another online service used for this purpose, free, very practical and also quite efficient. It supports not only RAR files but also various other compressed archive formats like ZIP, 7Z, TAR etc. It is free and allows you to upload files with a maximum size of 200 MB. Unlike the other services I have already told you about, it also allows you to upload files from the Web and open those protected by passwords.

You ask me how to use it? It's very easy, I'll tell you right away. First of all, connected to the home page of the service and presses the button Browse from computer to select the compressed archive saved on your computer that you want to unzip. If the archive is online, you can take it directly from there by typing its link in the field adjacent to the writing URL.

If the RAR archive you need to unzip is protected with a password, you can also type it in the appropriate field that you find next to the item Password.

You can then start the decompression procedure by clicking on the button uncompress which is at the bottom (the duration of the procedure depends on the size of the selected RAR archive). When the process is completed, you will be shown the contents of your RAR archive and you can download the individual files part of it by pressing on its name. It will be saved in the folder Download computer (provided you have not made any changes to the default browser settings).

Archive Extractor

Also Archive Extractor is a service that deserves consideration for what concerns the possibility to open files in RAR format directly from the browser window. It is in fact a Web resource that allows you to extract files in RAR, ZIP, 7Z, ZIPX, RAR, TAR, EXE, DMG, ISO, MSI, NRG, GZ, CAB, BZ2, WIM, ACE and other 54 types of archives without requiring registration. It also supports password-protected and multi-volume archives (i.e. those split into multiple parts). The upload can be performed both from the computer and from the web or, again, through the supported cloud storage services.

To use it, connected to its home page, click on the button Choose file from the computer and select the archive in RAR format saved on your PC that you want to unzip. Alternatively, you can drag it directly into the browser window, corresponding to the item or drag the selected file here ....

If, on the other hand, the compressed archive you intend to decompress is online or is archived on Google Drive or on Dropbox, you can upload it directly from there by selecting the corresponding link. In the case of the URL you will have to provide the relative link, while for what concerns the cloud storage services you will first have to log in with your data and then you will have to select the file.

When the operation is completed (the duration of the procedure depends on the size of the selected RAR archive), if you have selected a password protected file, type the unlock key in the box that opens and click on the button OK.

Wait, therefore, for the list with all the files contained in the archive to be shown and click on the name of each of them to download them to your computer. If you haven't made any changes to your browser settings, the files will be saved in the folder Download of the PC. I would like to point out that there is also a button to download all the files at the same time, but only in the form of a ZIP archive, which I believe will frustrate its usefulness (at least taking into account your current needs).

Funzip

None of the services to open an online RAR file that I have already told you have convinced you and are you looking for some other powerful tool to turn to? So do this: try now Funzip. This is an online application that allows you to unpack RAR and ZIP archives in a simple, fast and secure way. Unlike the solutions I have already told you about, it supports files with a maximum size of 400 MB and also all the downloaded elements are removed from the company's servers in a short time, automatically.

To use it, connected to the main page of the service and click on the box in the center to select and load the RAR file to decompress. Alternatively, drag your compressed archive directly to the center of the page, on the writing Drop files here or click to upload.

Once this is done, your compressed archive will be unpacked (the duration of the procedure depends on the size of the selected RAR archive) and all the files that compose it will be shown to you at the tab Results
always attached to the service page. To download them individually to your computer, click on their names. If you have not made any changes to the browser default settings, it will be saved in the folder Download on Windows or Mac.

Useful Resources to Open an "offline" RAR File

As anticipated at the beginning, as well as showing you what are the tools you have on your side to open a RAR file online, I want to show you some of the best programs used for this purpose that you can use to unpack your compressed archives "offline".

You will find listed those that in my opinion represent some of the best resources in the category right below. Choose the program you prefer and download it right away on your computer.

  • WinRAR (Windows / Mac / Linux) - It is one of the software for the management of compressed archives, and in particular of those in RAR format, the most famous and appreciated in the world. It allows you to open them but also to create new ones and is very easy to use. It is paid but is available in a free trial version that after 45 days no longer allows you to use the most advanced features and shows a warning message at every start.
  • WinZip (Windows / Mac) - To the detriment of what its name may imply, this program allows you to open and create RAR files (together with other compressed archive formats) allowing you to also enjoy various other advanced features. It is paid but is available in a free trial version thanks to which you can test all its functions for a period of 30 days.
  • 7-Zip (Windows) - This is a very famous and highly appreciated software, considered by most as one of the best free alternatives to the aforementioned WinRAR. It has a very minimal user interface but is able to perform very well its function of compressing and decompressing compressed archives, RAR included.
  • The Unarchiver (macOS) - Mac-specific free application that allows you to extract any file from compressed archives in RAR format (and more) simply by double clicking on it. Note that it also supports password-protected and multi-part archives.

For more details about the above programs and to get acquainted with other useful resources for the purpose, I suggest you read my tutorial on how to open RAR files and my post on programs to open RAR files. And if you own a Mac, you can also take a look at my specific guide, in fact, on how to extract Mac RAR files through which I have proceeded to point out applications reserved for the Apple side.
