Make a PowerPoint Presentation
Once you've finished downloading PowerPoint to your computer, it's time to take action and make the most of this program. To help you make a PowerPoint presentation, I will explain what the main features of this program are and how to use them.
To begin with, start PowerPoint by clicking on its icon (the letter “P” on a brown background). In the window that opens, click on the option Blank presentation located in the right pane if you want to create a new blank presentation, or select one of the many models available (if you prefer to use the presets created by the Microsoft team).
After choosing whether to create a blank presentation or a template, you will find yourself face to face with the workspace included in PowerPoint containing all the tools with which you can create new slides. To facilitate the use of all these tools, Microsoft has seen fit to organize the program interface in tabs.
- Home - contains practically all the useful tools for formatting text and also includes some most used PowerPoint functions (also contained in other tabs) thanks to which you can quickly add new slides, change their appearance and so on.
- Inserisci - to insert any element to your PowerPoint presentation, you will have to resort to this tab which allows you to add new slides, import images, add shapes, hyperlinks, etc.
- Design - to change the color, size, and more generally the appearance of the slides, you will need to use the tools included in this tab.
- Transitions - transitions are one of the most used tools on PowerPoint because they give life to the presentation and, if used well, allow you to give a certain originality to your work. You can add transitions to your presentation by selecting them directly from this tab.
- Animations - if you want to add animations to your presentation, you will necessarily have to "pass" through this tab, which contains many.
- Presentation - you can start playing the presentation (to preview the final result of your work), modify its viewing settings and access other settings using the commands included in this tab.
- revision - to avoid making a fool of yourself when viewing the slides, I recommend that you use the spell checking tools included in this tab which will allow you to identify and correct any errors in the text of your presentation.
- View - this tab allows you to change the display style of the presentation being edited and to use the zoom function.
After this brief excursus that has examined the main functions contained in the 8 PowerPoint tabs, it is time to explain in detail how to make a presentation using this program.
First, click on the option Click to enter title and type in the title of your presentation and do the same thing regarding the subtitle. After that, click on the tab Inserisci and, in the menu that opens, insert an image by clicking on the option Images, insert a shape by clicking on the option Form, insert a chart by clicking on the option Graphic, and so on for any other items you want to add to the current slide.
Once you have inserted an element to your presentation, you can position it within the slide using the mouse and, in addition, you can customize it to your liking by clicking on it and using the options and buttons that you can display in a dedicated tab of the bar PowerPoint tools (top).
If you wish, you can bring your presentation slides to life and make them more engaging using animations. To do this, select any element in your presentation, click on the tab Animations and choose an animation from those available. You can animate writings, images, shapes and practically any element present in the slides. And I'll tell you more: you can customize the animation settings by configuring their duration, sounds, direction of movement and much more. All you have to do is select an animated element and use the commands in the right sidebar.
Want to change the look of your presentation in just a few clicks? If so, click on the tab Design, select one of the available styles. In this way the graphic style of the presentation will change instantly. If, on the other hand, you want to change the size of the various slides, click on the button Slide size and set the presentation aspect ratio by choosing, for example, the format 4:3 o 16:9; or you can set the background format by clicking on the appropriate button located at the top right.
As soon as you have finished editing the initial slide, add a new slide by clicking on the tab Inserisci PowerPoint by clicking the option New slide and following the instructions I gave you just now to add effects, animations and other elements to your PowerPoint presentation.
Then, if you wish, add a transition between one slide and another by selecting a slide in the left menu (the perimeter of the slide must be colored orange), clicking on the tab Transitions and choosing a transition from those available.
When finished, click on the button Fillet, select the option Save with name present in the menu that opens and choose both the name to assign to the presentation and the format in which you want to save it. Did you see that it wasn't that difficult to create a PowerPoint presentation on a computer?
How to Make a PowerPoint Presentation on a Mobile Device
Microsoft Office PowerPoint It is also available as a free app for Android, iOS and Windows 10 Mobile devices (the app is usually pre-installed on Windows 10 Mobile devices). Compared to the desktop version of the program, the mobile version can be downloaded and used freely by anyone who wishes. However, users who do not have an active Office 365 plan cannot use all the features included in PowerPoint (adding custom effects and colors to shapes, adding styles to images, etc.).
Please note: you can download and use PowerPoint on your device for free, as long as your device has a size not exceeding 10.1 inches. After this limit, an Office 365 subscription is always required.
If you're using a smartphone to create PowerPoint presentations, you can easily create a presentation whether you have an Android smartphone, iPhone, or Windows 10 Mobile device at your disposal. Operation of the app is very simple for all three platforms, although there are slight differences between using the Android app and the iPhone app.
After downloading PowerPoint on your smartphone, start the app, press the red button Log in on its home screen and, on the next screen, tap the option Log in, if you have already created a Microsoft account or press the option sign up for free to create a new one for free. You can also skip this step to try out the app's features right away and log into your account later. The choice is yours!
On the screen that appears after logging in (or after skipping this step), tap on the item apri to open a previously created presentation or tap the option + New to make a new presentation and, on the next screen, press the option Blank presentation or, if you prefer, use one of the available templates.
Then click on the symbol (+) to add new slides to your presentation and edit the slide by tapping on it and choosing, in the menu that appears, one of the available options: the pencil to insert text; the symbol of scissors to cut the slide; the symbol of two overlapping sheets to copy it; the symbol of folder with sheet to glue it; Delete to remove it from the presentation; Hide, to hide it or Share to share it as an image or presentation.
Finally, when you have finished your work, save the presentation by tapping on the symbol (≡) and selecting the option Save with name from the menu that appears. You can choose whether to save the presentation on your device or elsewhere. I remind you that, if you are logged in with your Microsoft account, the slide is saved on OneDrive completely automatically.
As I mentioned earlier, on the iPhone PowerPoint works in a similar way to Android, only the fact that you start from the single slide view changes and, to go back and forth between the slides, you must use a menu at the bottom. On top of that, it also changes the context menu that opens when you tap a presentation slightly.
If you have installed PowerPoint on an iPhone or iPad, start the app and press the option Log in, if you already have a Microsoft account or, if not, tap the option Create an account to create a new one. If you wish, you can also skip these steps and log in later.
After deciding whether to login or not, create a new presentation by tapping on the option New or click on the option apri to open a previously created one. If you opt for creating a new presentation, tap on the option Blank presentation or use one of the many available templates made available by Microsoft.
On the next screen, press the tab Inserisci to add any element to your presentation (tables, multimedia content, etc.) and, to make it more appealing, add transitions e animations in the slide, "tapping" on the cards of the same name and choosing the models available in the relative submenus. To add a new slide, however, presses the symbol of blank slide located on the Home tab.
When you have finished creating your PowerPoint presentation, save it by tapping on thesheet icon (top left), pressing the option Export and choosing the format in which you want to export it. If you previously decided to log in with your Microsoft account, the presentation you made will be automatically saved to OneDrive.
How to Make a PowerPoint Presentation Online
If you need to create really essential presentations, you can also do without using PowerPoint on a computer or mobile device and you can opt for using the online version of this program. If you decide to do this, however, know that you will find yourself in front of a very limited version of PowerPoint, as I have already told you in an in-depth study that I have prepared in this regard.
To use PowerPoint Online, linked to the official Microsoft Office site, click the button Log in and log in using your Microsoft account login credentials (or create a new one if you don't have it yet). Once logged in, click onPowerPoint icon and select one of the available templates to start working on your presentation.
As you can see, the PowerPoint Online interface is very similar to the desktop version of the program, but offers a much more meager set of tools, transitions and animations. However, if you have to make very simple presentations, that may be enough.
To create a presentation by adding slides and various elements to it, use the PowerPoint tabs just as you did with the desktop version of the program (if you have difficulty, please review the information you find in the paragraph dedicated to using PowerPoint on a computer) and, when you have finished your work, click on the button Fillet which is located at the top left. Then click on the entry Download as and decide whether to save the file as a presentation, PDF o file ODP.
