Finding Public IP Address (dynamic / Static)

Find Your IP Address

It may seem trivial to you but to find a public IP address, whether static or dynamic, all you have to do is connect to an Internet site, or rather to a Web service that, without using any particular software or plugin, allows you to obtain this information. It is about What Is My IP Address and, as I have already mentioned, it allows you to have very detailed information on the IP address, the ISP to which it belongs (the telephone company that provides you with the Internet connection) and even the geographical position of the user, which is displayed on a map (what is provided is not the exact location of the computer, but the location where the telephone exchange to which the connection in use is located).

To find the IP address, just click here in order to connect immediately to the What Is My IP Addres web page and wait a few moments for the latter to be loaded. Later, under the heading Your IPv4 Address IS: you will be shown your public IP address.

Keep in mind that if when you connect to What Is My IP Address your browser asks you for permission to communicate your geographical position to the site, it accepts. Otherwise, the service will not be able to correctly locate your connection and show it on the map.

Want to see even more details about your IP address? Then once you go to the main page of What Is My IP Address, click on the button Learn More About This IP which is located in the center. Once this is done, you will be redirected to a page with more precise information about the company that provides you with the Internet connection and the geographical location of the user with a red indicator on the map at the bottom of the page.

As an alternative to the service to find the IP address I have just indicated, you can contact WhatISMyIP. This is a solution which works practically similar to what has already been seen.

To use it, all you have to do is click here so that you can immediately connect to the main web page of the service. On the page that will open, you will find your IP address next to the wording Your IP Address Is:, the name of the location where the control unit to which your connection refers is located next to the entry City: and the name of your internet provider next to the entries ISP ed Organization. By pressing the button instead My IP Information you will be shown a new web page containing more information about your IP.

Finding Someone Else's IP Address

If, on the other hand, you intend to find another person's public IP address, for example a nuisance who storms your blog with offensive comments or sends you unsolicited emails, you can resort to the control panel of your blog platform and your email service.

In the first case, you can find the IP address of the harassing commentator in the information linked to his comments (I mainly refer to the platform WordPress).

With regard to emails, however, you can extrapolate the sender's IP address by consulting theheader received messages. The leader, if you do not know it is a report in which there are all the technical details of the emails received. To know the IP of the sender of an email, you must therefore open the message and follow these instructions depending on the program / Web service you use to manage the email.

  • It was used Outlook Express, select the voice Property from the menu Fillet and, in the window that opens, go to the card Details and click on the button Original message.
  • If you use Mail, select the reference email, select the item Vista from the menu bar, move the cursor to Message and choose the item Source format.
  • It was used Mozilla Thunderbird, select the voice Source of the message from the menu View.
  • It was used gmail, click on the button with the arrow located at the top right (in the message box) and select the item Show original give the menu check if you press.

The sender's IP address is the one you find in the string Received: from of the report. Be careful though, because this system doesn't always work. For senders using Webmail, the IP is in fact replaced by that of the mail service servers and therefore no longer corresponds to the real one.
