Are you trying to connect your smartphone to your computer but can't? Well that's a pretty common problem, nothing to worry about anyway. In most cases, for connect smartphone to PC just search for the right software on the Internet and install them on your computer: two very simple operations that require very little time to be put into practice. I would say, therefore, not to get too lost in small talk and immediately take action.
Take five minutes of free time and try to follow the instructions I am about to give you, so you will discover how to connect all the main models of Android and iPhone smartphones to your PC (or Mac). At the end of the procedure, you will therefore be able to access the files in the phone's memory, use it as a modem and perform a large number of additional operations.
The directions you are about to read apply to all the latest versions of Windows and macOS. The version of the operating system installed on the smartphone is irrelevant for the procedure. All you have to do is roll up your sleeves and take action. Happy reading and have fun!
How to Connect Smartphone to PC Without Cable
If you are actually interested in understanding how to connect smartphone to PC with WiFi, without using the classic USB cable, I advise you to carefully read the information in this chapter.
If yours is a smartphone animated by the operating system Android, the first method I would recommend to reach your goal is to use AirDroid: a complete platform for the management of smartphones and tablets equipped with the Google operating system, available in the form of an app on the Play Store, a Web service (accessible via the browser) and an independent computer program.
The free version of AirDroid allows you to manage 2 devices at a time, applying a maximum data transfer limit 30 MB for single file, For a total of 200 MB of data. To eliminate these limitations and add additional features (including the ability to selectively disable notifications, move entire folders and use the integrated anti-theft system) you need to subscribe to a subscription plan, at the cost of $ 2,99 / month ** or ** $ 24,99 / year (more info here).
To use AirDroid, even for free, it is advisable - albeit not necessary - to register an account: by doing so, it is possible to connect the devices together via an encrypted connection, view notifications in real time and avoid repeating the procedure. pairing. If you are interested in taking advantage of these possibilities, connected to this website from your PC, click on the item Subscribe and fill out the form that is proposed to you with the requested data: an address e-mail valid, a nickname it's a password to use to log in; alternatively, you can speed it up by logging in via Facebook, Twitter o Google, using the appropriate buttons located at the bottom.
Once registration is complete, download the AirDroid from the Play Store or, if your device does not have Google services, from an alternative store; then start it, tap the button Log in and log in to the service using the credentials created above. Now tap the buttons Continue e Allow, in order to authorize access to the memory, and specify whether or not to allow the app to run in the background by pressing the button Allow o Reject. Next, tap the button OK and choose which of the remote functions to enable by acting on the appropriate items.
After these operations, return to PC, connected to the AirDroid Web service page and log in again with your credentials: if everything went smoothly, you should see the device management console, through which you can access photos, SMS, files saved on the device, the call log, apps, and many other items. To start the function of your interest, double-click on the respective icon; to terminate the connection, simply close the browser window.
How do you say? You prefer use AirDroid without registering? No problem. In this case, after connecting to AirDroid Web, start the "companion" app on your smartphone, tap the icon barcode located at the top right and, after granting the camera usage permissions, scan the QR code that appears on the page displayed on your computer, also removing the check mark from the box Connect via HTTPS.
In addition to AirDroid, you can use several other web services to connect your Android smartphone to your computer wirelessly - here are some of them.
- Pushbullet - available in the form of a web service, app for Android, program for Windows PC and extension for the most popular browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox and Safari), this service allows you to view smartphone notifications directly on your PC, to respond to SMS and to exchange files "on the fly" between the associated devices. The service can be used for free, albeit with some limitations, but requires mandatory registration.
- Google Drive - is the cloud service integrated into the Android operating system, available for Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone, which allows you to quickly exchange files over the Internet. I told you about it in detail in this guide.
- Google Photos - just like Google Drive, it is a service integrated in most of the devices animated by Android, on which you can save your shots and access them from any location, including PC. More info here.
- Other cloud services - in addition to those mentioned so far, there are many other cloud services, each with different characteristics and peculiarities, which allow you to exchange files between smartphones and PCs and to perform a large number of other operations. I told you about it in detail in my tutorial dedicated to the best cloud.
Finally, if you want to deepen the discussion, I invite you to carefully read my guide on how to connect Android to the PC, in which I have listed other useful methods to establish the connection between the two devices (including those that require the use of the USB cable).
If you own a iPhone, instead, you can establish a connection with the PC wirelessly using the official tools made available by Apple, such as iTunes on Windows, the Finder e AirDrop On MacOS and Web service iCloud. The only prerequisite to be met, in the first two cases, is that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
iTunes / Finder
To connect the iPhone to a PC Windows in Wi-Fi mode, you must first install the software iTunes, if you don't already have them; to be able to do so, connect to this website and, if you use Windows 10click on your button Get it from Microsoft and install the program by clicking on the buttons Get, Open Microsoft Store e Get.
If, on the other hand, you have an older version of the Microsoft operating system, click on the link Windows collocato sotto the dicitura Are you looking for other versions? e premium pulsating Download iTunes for Windows now, to start downloading the software installer. Once you get the file .exe iTunes, launch it and click on the buttons Yes, forward, Install, Yes for two consecutive times e end, to complete the setup.
On PoppyHowever, this step is not necessary since, starting with macOS 10.15 Catalina, the functionality of iTunes has been integrated into the Finder; on previous versions of macOS, however, the aforementioned software is installed “by default” in the operating system.
After completing the previous steps, start iTunes on Windows or the Finder on macOS, connect the iPhone to the computer via cable (you only need to do this the first time) and, if you haven't yet paired the two devices, tap on the buttons Allow / Authorize that appear on both devices and type the iPhone unlock code.
Once this is done, click onicona dell’iPhone located at the top left of iTunes or in the sidebar of the Finder, go to the card General / Summary, put the check mark next to the item Sync with iPhone via Wi-Fi / Show iPhone if Wi-Fi connection is on and click on the button Apply located at the bottom right.
Done! From now on, you can use the items in the iTunes sidebar or the tabs at the top of the Finder window to copy and / or sync data between your phone and computer: to find out more, give one look at my guide on how to sync iPhone with iTunes.
Note: Wirelessly, updates cannot be applied or iPhone restored via iTunes / Finder.
If it is your intention to connect the iPhone to a Poppy, you can also use proprietary technology AirDrop, which allows you to establish a connection between most Apple-branded devices, exchanging files in Wi-Fi mode, as long as they are connected to the same wireless network and have the Bluetooth connectivity active.
To activate AirDrop on your computer, go to the menu vai located at the top, select the item AirDrop and, if necessary, press the appropriate button displayed on the screen for turn on Bluetooth and / or the Wi-Fi, in order to prepare the computer for communication with the telephone. Finally, click on the item Allow to find me a and select the item Contacts only from the small menu that appears.
Once this is done, take the iPhone, call up the Control Center by swiping from the top right corner down (on iPhones with Face ID) or from bottom to top (on iPhones with Home button), make a long tap on the panel of the network, turn on Wi-Fi if necessary, then tap the icon AirDrop (the one in the shape of concentric circles with an empty triangle inside) and choose the item Contacts only from the menu that appears, in order to arrange the sending / receiving of files only to yourself or your contacts.
If everything went smoothly, from now on, you can take advantage of AirDrop to make the file transfer: for move files from iPhone to Mac, open the content of your interest, touch the icon of sharing, tap the icon AirDrop from the panel that appears later and select the Mac name from the next screen.
To move files from the Mac all’iPhone, right click on the file to transfer, select the item Share from the proposed context menu, choose the option AirDrop and click on iPhone name to send the file to. Finally, to start the transfer, click on the button Submit.
For more information on how to use AirDrop, I invite you to take a look at the specific tutorial I have dedicated to its operation.
Another great way to establish a connection between iPhone and computer, regardless of the operating system, is iCloud: the Apple cloud service, in fact, allows you to access the files of the "iPhone by" generated through compatible apps (eg. Contacts, Mail, Photos, Keynote, Pages, Numbers and so on) through a handy web console, accessible via any computer browser.
Generally, iCloud is activated when configuring the iPhone but, to verify that all compatible apps actually enjoy synchronization, go to the menu Settings> [your name] iOS, tap the item iCloud and make sure that the levers corresponding to the apps to be synchronized are active, otherwise you can do it.
To access the synchronized files from your computer, proceed as follows: connected to the iCloud site, log in with the credentials of theApple ID associated with the iPhone and, if applicable, complete the two-factor authentication by following the instructions shown on the screen.
Finally, use the console displayed on the next screen to view, download or create / upload new ones contacts, video, fillet or other elements. To learn more about how to use iCloud, I suggest you take a look at the specific guide I have dedicated to the topic.

How to Connect Smartphone to PC for the Internet
You need to connect your smartphone to your PC to share it Internet connection? Don't worry, it's super easy! Before proceeding, however, I recommend that you collect the necessary information about the active data plan on your mobile phone and make sure of the presence or absence of additional costs applied in case of sharing the connection: this option, in fact, may not be free (even if it is by now in most cases).
To share the connection of Android with your computer, first go to the menu Settings> Network and Internet> Mobile Network operating system and make sure that the lever for the Data connection is set to ON, otherwise you do it.
Afterwards, go back to the menu Rete and Internet, open the section Hotspot and Tethering and, to use your phone as a Wi-Fi modem, tap your voice Wi-Fi Hotspot. Using the proposed items, indicate the name of the hotspot, the password to use at login and, if you see fit, tap the item Advanced to determine the automatic deactivation options and / or the band connection.
When done, move up ON the lever at the top of the screen: once this is done, you just have to connect your computer to the wireless network generated by the phone. That's all!
To take advantage of the sharing of the connection via cable, connect the smartphone to the computer via USB cable and activate the lever relative to Tethering USB, in order to enable PC navigation via the cellular network; to use the connection via Bluetooth, instead, enable the switch Tethering Bluetooth and, after activating the same technology also on the computer, carry out the pairing procedure between the two devices using the methods provided by Windows or macOS. For more information, feel free to check out my guide on how to connect Bluetooth.
For more information on the use of the Android smartphone as a modem, I invite you to read the specific tutorial that I have focused on the subject.
Use theiPhone as a modem is really child's play! If you intend to share the connection via cable, connect the phone to the computer and, if you use Windows, make sure that iTunes has been previously installed on the computer (you can possibly remedy this by following the instructions I gave you a little while ago). As for the sharing of the connection via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it is not necessary to carry out the above operations.
In any case, to activate the "modem" mode of the iPhone, go to the menu Settings> Cellular iOS device, make sure that the Cellular data is set to ON and play the voice Personal hotspot. Next, move up ON the corresponding levetta alla voce Allow others to log in And that's it!
Now, if you intend to use the phone like Wi-Fi hotspots, you simply have to select, from the computer, the wireless network generated by the smartphone (eg. Salvatore's iPhone) and enter, when prompted, the password displayed on the phone screen (which you can change by tapping the field Wi-Fi Password).
If you have a phone updated to at least iOS 8 and a Mac equipped with macOS 10.10 Yosemite or later, you do not have to activate the hotspot function on the phone because, by activating Bluetooth, the computer and the iPhone will automatically "see" each other and the wireless network of the phone will immediately be available in the list of available networks on your computer
To take advantage of the USB modeminstead, tap the button Authorize that appears on the screen, in order to allow the computer to access the data connection; to use theHotspot Bluetoothinstead, pair the phone to the computer using the procedure best suited to your operating system and type, when prompted, the security code that appears on the screen. How to Connect Smartphone to PC with Broken Screen
Your smartphone screen no longer works properly and would you like to connect it to your computer to back up your data before even sending it for service? In this case, the success or failure of the operation strictly depends on the category of smartphone in your possession (Android or iPhone) and the "level" of breakage of the screen.
Let me explain: if the screen is in pieces but the touch panel still works, so as to allow you to enter the unlock code, the pattern or the password, you can connect the phone to the computer using Wi-Fi, or via cable, exactly as you would in "normal" conditions, using one of the methods I mentioned spoken in the previous bars of this guide.
If, however, you can see the screen content correctly but the touch panel does not work, you can try to solve the problem using technology OTG, through which you can connect a "common" USB mouse and / or keyboard to the device. I explained how in my guide on how to connect mouse and keyboard to the phone.
If your phone is a Samsung, you can use the Find My Device site to delete the startup unlock code / pattern; after carrying out this operation, it is possible to connect the smartphone to the computer and act in the classic way.
Finally, if the smartphone screen is completely black and it shows no signs of life, the possibilities of accessing the phone's memory are further reduced: up Android, for example, you can use the platform ADB, together with the software Fastboot and a custom recovery which, however, must have been previously installed on the device.
If, on the other hand, yours is a iPhone, I'm sorry to tell you that it is not possible to access the data in memory in any way. However, if you have previously made a backup via iTunes, the Finder or iCloud, you can restore the device to its previous state after sending it for service to repair the screen.
To find out more about the steps to take to recover data from a broken phone, I recommend that you carefully read the in-depth tutorial I dedicated to the subject, full of useful information to succeed in this apparently impossible undertaking.
