Your TV remote control broke, so you decided to replace it with a universal one but didn't quite understand how to configure it to work properly? Don't worry, even if at first glance they seem impossible to set up, setting up universal remote controls is actually a breeze.
If you don't believe it, try reading the directions on how to code remote control I'm about to give you and put them into practice on the remote you just bought. I know, maybe right now you are thinking that this is an operation out of your reach but you have to believe me, things are not that way. In fact, you will see that, in no time at all, you will be perfectly able to control TVs, decoders and so on with just one device!
So if you are really willing to find out what needs to be done in order to code the remote control, I suggest you take a few moments for yourself and concentrate on reading this tutorial. I am sure that eventually you will slap yourself on the forehead and wonder but how did I not think about it before? What do you say, we bet?
Based on your preferences and needs and based on the brand and model of remote control you use, please note that it is possible to perform different configurations. In fact, you can code the remote by entering the identification code associated with the TV or decoder or by performing the automatic recognition of the appliance. You can also code the remote control via computer connection. Below you will find indicated how to proceed in all three cases.
Please note: Since each remote works differently from the other and since I am not aware of the exact make and model of remote control you have, I cannot be 100% accurate in the explanations. However, do not worry, I will try to provide you, as far as possible, with clear and comprehensive information.
Code Remote Control by Identification Code
If you want to find out how to code the remote control you just purchased to use it with your TV or your decoder, the simplest operation you can do is consult the instruction manual of the manufacturer of the remote control and find the identification code you want to memorize (generally consisting of three digits).
Alternatively, you can try to find the remote control identification code through the website of the manufacturer of the remote control. To do this, positioned in front of the computer, start the web browser that you generally use to surf the net and connect to the website of the device manufacturer. Below you will find a list of all the main universal remote control manufacturers and the related one linked to their website.
- TELE System
Once the main web page of the site is displayed, use the search field generally located at the top of the same, type the model name of your remote control and press Submit on the keyboard. Then click on the search result that you think corresponds to the device in your possession and, in the new page that is shown to you at this point, locate the section relating to the codes that can be used with the remote control. Finally, identify the code referring to your device.
After you have managed to find the right code to tune your TV or decoder, all you have to do is press the key combination SET+TV on the remote control (instead of TV you have to press the key relating to the device to be memorized), enter the code of the device to be tuned and save the settings by pressing the key Power.
Keep in mind that on some remote control models, the buttons to press during the recognition procedure may be different from those I have already indicated. So, in case the procedure for coding universal remote control that I have suggested you follow should be ineffective, you can try to press the combination of keys Power + Muto on the remote control or you can try to identify the correct combination immediately by consulting the instruction manual of the device and / or on the manufacturer's website again. Then enter the code referring to the device in your possession and confirm everything by pressing Power.
After entering the code correctly, try to carry out any operation using the remote control with the device you have associated with it so that you can immediately ascertain that it is working correctly. For example, if you chose to code your remote for use with your TV, try changing channels. If all goes well you can finally feel satisfied. If not, I suggest you repeat the whole procedure all over again.
If, even after carrying out the whole procedure for coding the remote control, the problems persist, make sure that the distance between the devices from the TV, decoder or in any case from the device you intend to use it with is not excessive (on average, you can use a remote control up to a maximum of 7 meters away). Also check that there are batteries in the remote control and that they are charged. It seems trivial, I know, but often they are things that are taken for granted when they are not.
Code Remote Control by Automatic Recognition
If you have not been able to find the right code to memorize your TV or your decoder, to code the remote control you can carry out the automatic recognition procedure provided in all the main universal remote controls currently on the market.
To configure a television, decoder or any other device using the automatic recognition of universal remote controls, you must hold down the keys Power + TV (where instead of TV you have to press the key relating to the device to be memorized) until the LED of the device begins to flash. Then you have to press the button Power every five seconds until the TV or decoder switches off (a sign that recognition was successful).
Note that even in this case, some universal remote control models have different key combinations to perform automatic device recognition. If the information I have given you does not seem to have the desired effect, you can then try to identify the correct key combination to use to code the remote control by consulting the instruction booklet of the device and / or on the manufacturer's website.
Then, to make sure that the procedure by which to code the remote control has been carried out and completed correctly, try to perform any operation using it on the device with which you made the association. If all goes well ... congratulations, you have finally succeeded in your intent! If not, I suggest you don't get discouraged and try repeating the whole procedure again.
Also in this case, if even after carrying out all the procedure for coding the remote control from scratch, the problems persist, make sure that the distance between the devices from the TV, decoder or in any case from the device you intend to use it with is not excessive (on average it is possible use a remote control up to a maximum of 7 meters away). Also check that the remote control has batteries and that they are charged.
Code Remote Control Via Computer
Some universal remote controls, the more advanced ones equipped with a USB port, can be connected to the computer and configured via the manufacturer's website by choosing the devices to be stored on the remote control from a special web panel.
To code universal remote control with USB support, simply connect the device to the computer, wait for the latter's drivers to be installed on the PC and open the website of the remote control manufacturer. Once these steps have been completed, register on the company's website by entering your details and those relating to the remote control in your possession.
Then you will be shown a simple Web interface through which you will have the possibility to select the television, the decoder and all the other devices to be controlled with the remote control, which will be configured in a totally automatic way by the computer and will be ready to be used at the instant. Easier than that?
