How to Clone Cd

Do you have old CDs that you care a lot about and, to avoid the risk of losing the data contained in them, would you like to create backup copies? No problem. There are software, even free, that allow you to clone the contents of CDs and save them on your computer as an image file or transfer them "on the fly" to a blank disk.

It is up to you to choose the backup system that seems most comfortable and / or best suited to your needs. Know, however, that by creating an image file of your CDs (thus saving all their content in a single file) you will have the possibility to use them directly through software such as the ones I reported to you in my tutorial on how to mount ISO files or, in case of necessity, to burn them on blank disks to obtain perfect copies of the original media.

Whether you have a Windows PC or a Mac, whether you want to copy a simple data disk, a game or an audio CD, take five minutes of free time and find out how to clone CD thanks to the information I'm about to give you. I assure you that you will be able to get perfect backups of your CDs so quickly and easily that you will be amazed! Happy reading and have fun!

ImgBurn (Windows)

If you need to clone a CD that does not have copy protection, you can easily contact ImgBurn: a free software for Windows that allows you to get perfect images of any CD and DVD and burn them on blank media, thus obtaining perfect copies of the source CDs.

To download Imgburn on your PC, connect to its official website and click on the item first Mirror x – Provided by MajorGeeks and then [email protected]. Then open the software installation package (SetupImgBurn_xx.exe) and, in the window that opens, first click on Yesand then Next. Then put the check mark next to the item I accept the terms of the License agreement and finish the setup by first clicking on Next five consecutive times and then on Yes e Finish. If you are offered additional promotional software during setup, for example dropbox, disable them by removing the check mark from their names.

At this point you could also take action, but before using ImgBurn I recommend that you translate its interface into Italian (by default it is in English). Then click on this link to download the Italian translation file (italian.lng) and extract it to the folder C:Program Files (x86)ImgBurnLanguages of your PC. Then start ImgBurn and, if the program is not yet translated into Italian, go to the menu Tools > Settings to set the Italian language from the menu Language.

Once the translation is applied, insert the CD you want to clone into your computer and click the button  Create a disk image by ImgBurn. In the window that opens, then choose the drive of your CD player from the drop-down menu Origin, click onicon della cartella placed under the heading Destination and select the path to save your disk image (which can be in BIN, I'M G o ISO depending on the option you choose from the menu Save eat).

Then click onicon with CD and sheet located at the bottom left of the main window of ImgBurn and wait for the creation of the image file to be completed.

Once you have your image file, to burn it with ImgBurn, all you have to do is select the item Burn an image from the initial program menu, click on the icon folder located next to the item Select a file and choose the ISO / BIN / IMG file you created earlier.

Then set the writing speed desired from the appropriate drop-down menu and presses the icon with the sheet and disk to start burning the contents of the image file onto a blank CD (which you should have previously inserted into your computer).

CloneCD (Windows)

CloneCD is one of the best known CD cloning software. It supports all types of CDs, including games protected with anti-copy measures such as note SafeDisc 3. It's not free, it costs 39 euros, but you can try it for free for 21 days.

To download the CloneCD trial on your computer, connect to the official website of the program and click on the button Download placed next to the item RedFox CloneCD. When the download is complete, open the CloneCD installation package (SetupCloneCDxx.exe) and click on the button first Yes and then Accept, forward, Install e Close to finish the setup. If you are prompted to restart your PC, accept.

Now, start CloneCD, click on Accept e Test to access the main program window and choose whether to create a image file of the disk you intend to clone or whether to create one “on the fly” copy of the CD temporarily storing its data on the PC and then pouring it all onto a blank medium.

To create an image file, you need to click on the icon with the disk and the glasses, after which you have to choose the drive of yours CD player, you have to press on forward and you must indicate the type of disk you are about to copy: Audio CD, Data CD (data disk), Game CD (videogame), Multimedia audio CD o Protected PC Game (protected PC game). Then click on the button forward, use the button Shop by Department to select the path to save the image file (which will be in CCD format) and presses on OK to start copying the diskette.

When the operation is completed, you can burn the image file obtained with CloneCD by clicking on the CD and pencil, pressing the button Shop by Department and selecting the image file to burn from the window that opens.

If you want to clone a disk on the fly, click on the icon two CDs present on the CloneCD home screen, select the drive where the source CD is located, or forward, indicates the type of disk to be copied (eg. Audio CD o Data CD), go again forward, choose the folder in which to save the temporary image file (by clicking on the button Shop by Department) and start creating the image file.

At the end of the reading, you will be asked to insert the blank disk on which to clone the source CD, to choose the type of disk to burn and to set the burning speed which you prefer more. Then click on OK to start the process of writing the media and within a few minutes you will get your "cloned" disk.

Exact Audio Copy (Windows)

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is a free software that allows you to create perfect copies of audio CDs by saving them on your computer and / or other diskettes. It does not convert tracks to compressed format (unless the user requests it), so it does not compromise the quality of the songs. It is also capable of overcoming writing errors and many copy protections. To download it to your PC, connect to its official website using the link I just provided and click on the item Download Installer.

When the download is complete, open the Exact Audio Copy installation package (eac-xx.exe) and, in the window that appears, first click on Yes and then Next, I Agree, yet Next for two consecutive times, install e Finish but I will complete the setup.

At this point, to clone an audio CD with EAC, start the program and follow the initial configuration procedure that is proposed to you. Then click on the button forwardselect l 'drive of your CD player and always go forward to perform a quick test of the CD player.

At the end of the test, if you are asked to configure the feature AccurateRipping to improve the accuracy of the diskette copy, accept by clicking Configure. So wait for the configuration to be completed (it should take a few seconds) and click on forward for two consecutive times. Then select the file format you prefer most for converting songs in compressed mode (eg. MP3, WMA o FLAC, knowing that you won't have to use this feature to get your 1: 1 copies of your music CDs) and always click on forward to conclude the initial EAC setup.

Now you can take action! Then select the tracks you want to "clone" and click on first icon located in the left sidebar to extrapolate them individually in uncompressed WAV format (therefore to CD quality) or on the third icon to save all tracks in an IMG image file.

After the extraction is complete, you can create a copy of the audio CDs extracted with EAC by copying the WAV files you have obtained into any burning software (there are many free burning programs to choose from) or by using the burning function included in EAC. In the latter case you have to go to the menu Schema> Add File as New Track, select the WAV files to burn and start writing the disk by going to the menu CD-R> Write CD.

Alternatively, if you have saved the audio CD as an image file, you need to go to the menu File> Load CUE Sheet and select the CUE file previously generated by EAC. When the operation is complete, start burning the disk by going to the menu CD-R> Write CD.

Windows Media Player Ed ITunes (Windows/Mac)

Maybe not everyone knows, but also Windows Media Player ed iTunes, two very popular software that you almost certainly already have installed on your computer, include ripping functions to get WAV (uncompressed), MP3, M4A and AAC files from audio CDs. To use them, just insert the CD to “rip” into your computer, start Windows Media Player or iTunes and answer in the affirmative to the request for recording the tracks on your computer. To adjust the output formats just act in the program settings. I have explained everything to you in more detail in my tutorial on how to convert CD to MP3.

Burn (Mac)

If you use a Poppy, you can clone your floppies using Burn. It is a free burning software for macOS that allows you to create image files, burn them and burn many other types of diskettes, such as audio CDs and video CDs. Unfortunately it has not been updated for some time and does not support diskettes equipped with anti-copy measures, but it also works very well on the most recent versions of macOS (for example, I tested it on macOS 10.12 Sierra without problems).

To download Burn to your computer, connect to the official website of the program and click on the item Download Burn located at the bottom right. When the download is complete, open thezip archivethat contains the program and copies its icon to the folder Applications say macOS.

Now start Burn Energy Drink facendo click destro sulla sua icona and selecting the voice apri from the menu that opens (this is only necessary for the first start), choose the tab Copy from the main software window and click on the button Scan…. Then select the drive of the CD player e pigia his Save (bottom right) to start creating the image file.

When the operation is complete, to burn the ISO images directly with Burn, go to the menu File> Open (top left), select the image file to burn and press the button Burn which is located at the bottom right.

Please note: if for one reason or another Burn does not satisfy you, know that you can also create image files of your CDs with Disk Utility macOS (I explained to you well as in my tutorial on how to extract ISO files from DVDs and CDs) or by purchasing commercial software such as Roxio Toast Titanium which costs about 90 euros.
