I'm here today to help you out. Let's start by saying that CSV documents (abbreviation of comma-separated values, comma separated values) are nothing more than simple text files which, as the name suggests, contain lists of data separated by commas. They are often used to export e-mail contacts or quickly import information into spreadsheets. You can create and read them with a huge range of applications, both free and paid.

Programs for Making CSV Files
Let's start with a couple of programs that allow you to create CSV files on Windows, macOS and Linux. Choose the one that best suits your needs and use it following the directions I am about to give you.
Microsoft Excel (Windows / Mac)
If you have a copy of Microsoft Office installed on your PC or Mac, you can fare file CSV directly with Excel: Microsoft's famous spreadsheet software. Its operation is so simple that there is no need to even talk about it.
All you need to do to create a CSV file with this software is to start creating one new workbook blank (by selecting the appropriate option on the app home screen) and fill the sheet with all the data you want to include in your document. For example, you could create a column with the names of your customers or friends, one with their telephone numbers and another with their email addresses, but there are no particular rules to respect: you can create lists of data in the the way you prefer.
When you are ready to save the document, all you have to do is click on the button Fillet located at the top left, select the item Save with name from the menu that opens and (only if you are using the 2013/2010 version of Office) go to Computer> Browse.
In the window that opens, set the item CSV (delimited by list separator) give menu to tendin Save eat, choose the folder in which to export the file in CSV format, give it a name and click on the button Save to complete the operation. If you get a warning that some spreadsheet features may not be preserved after exporting to CSV, click Yes, OK I will continue.
Of course, you can also open an existing XLS / XLSX workbook with the same procedure and turn it into a CSV file. Convenient, right?
To open an existing CSV file, right-click on it and select the item related to Excel from the menu Open with or, alternatively, open Excel, click on the buttons apri e Shop by Department and select the CSV file you want to open in the program.
If you don't have Microsoft Office installed on your PC, you can fare file CSV with Calc, the spreadsheet application included in LibreOffice. In case you've never heard of it, LibreOffice is an excellent free and open source productivity suite born as a free alternative to Microsoft Office (after OpenOffice, with which it shares much of the source code). It is completely in Italian, is compatible with all major computer operating systems (Windows, macOS and Linux) and supports CSV files for both reading and writing.
To download LibreOffice on your PC, connect to its official website and click on the button Download version xx. If you use a Mac you also have to download the package that is used to translate the interface of the suite in Italian, in that instead of LibreOffice Windows version is included "standard." To download the language pack click on the button Translated user interface.
Once the download is complete, proceed with the installation of the suite following these short procedures.
- On Windows - open the LibreOffice installation package (eg. LibreOffice_5.2.4_Win_x86.msi) and click on first Run and then forward twice in a row, Install, Yes e end.
- Your macOS - open the LibreOffice dmg package, drag the software icon to the folder Applications macOS and start the latter by right clicking on its icon and selecting the item apri from the menu that appears. Next, close LibreOffice, open the dmg package of the language pack, right-click on the icon LibreOffice Language Pack, select the voice apri from the menu that opens and click on the button Install twice in a row to translate the suite into Italian.
Now you just have to start LibreOffice and click on the button to create a new one Electronic Calc Sheet located in the left sidebar. Then fill in the workbook with the data you want to save as a CSV file and click on the Floppy Disk located at the top left.
At this point, select the voice CSV text from the drop-down menu for selecting the file type, choose the folder in which to export the document and that's it. Click on OK two consecutive times to complete the operation correctly.
Just like Excel, LibreOffice Calc can also be used to transform spreadsheets in XLS, XLSX or ODS (OpenDocument) format into CSV files by opening the workbook, selecting the item Save with name from the menu Fillet and setting CSV format as the output format.
To open an existing CSV file, just go to the menu File> Open LibreOffice or right-click on the file and select the entry for LibreOffice Calc from the menu Open with.
Export CSV Files from the Address Book
You do not wish create CSV files compiling them manually but much more simply do you want to export the contacts of your address book in this format? No problem. Here's how it's done on major smartphone operating systems and major email services.
The default address book of Android allows you to export contacts only in VCF format. To export contacts in CSV format you need an external application, such as Contact Master Kit which is free and very easy to use.
To export contacts with Contact Master Kit, start the application and press the button Export your contact. Then put the check mark on the item All contacts o Selected contacts (depending on whether you want to export all contacts or only some selected contacts), presses the buttons OK e Next and select the format CSV as the output format.
Finally, "tap" the button Start, wait for the export of contacts to be completed and press the button Email to auto-send you the CSV file via email or save it in one of the apps you have installed on your device (eg Dropbox, Google Drive and the like).
If you have one iPhone, you can export your address book contacts as a CSV file using My Contacts Backup, a free application that allows you to export up to 500 contacts from your address book in CSV format. To eliminate this limit (and disable the advertising banners) you need to buy the Pro version of the app which costs 1,99 euros.
To export contacts in CSV format with My Contacts Backup, you need to open the application and grant it permission to access the iOS address book. Then you have to press the icon ofgear which is located at the bottom right and you have to select the item CSV (Excel) from the menu Type to set CSV format as the output format for exported contacts.
When the operation is completed, go back to the main screen of My Contacts Backup and first press the button Backup/Export and then OK. Then wait for the export of the contacts to be completed, press the button Email and auto-sent the obtained CSV file by e-mail.
If you use Gmail as an e-mail service and / or Google as a synchronization service for your address book, you can export your contacts in CSV format in a very simple way. All you have to do is connect to the Google Contacts service and click on the items More> Export found in the left sidebar.
Then select the items Contacts e CSV Google from the box that opens and presses the button Export to start saving all contacts.
Also Outlook.com, the Microsoft e-mail service, allows you to export the contacts in the address book in the form of a CSV file. All you have to do is connect to your inbox, press the button with i 9 squares at the top and select the icon People give the menu to compare.
On the page that opens, click on the item Manage located at the top, select the option Export contacts from the menu that appears and choose whether to export all contacts or only a certain one folder of contacts by placing the check mark next to the appropriate item.
Next, click on the button Export which is located at the top and wait a few seconds for the CSV file with the contacts to be prepared and downloaded to your PC.
