How to Backup Huawei on Mac
I use a Poppy? No problem. Huawei released a version of HiSuite, its software for the management of smartphones and tablets from computers, even for macOS. Unfortunately, this version is not as complete as the one for Windows (the functions for direct data backup and restore are missing), however it is possible to use it to transfer photos, videos and documents on the device to the computer. It is also possible to turn to external solutions that allow to obtain satisfactory results. Here is all explained in detail.
If you want to download the software HiSuite on your Mac, connected to this web page and click on the button See in the Mac App Store to open the Mac App Store. Once the Apple store window is displayed, press the button Get / Install the app (located on the left) to start the download first and then the automatic installation of the program. You may be asked to confirm your identity by entering your Apple ID password.
Once the installation is complete, start HiSuite via its icon that appears in the Launchpad (or by pressing the button apri in the Mac App Store) and enable the function HDB on your Huawei terminal: to do this, open the app Settings (the gear icon located on the home screen or in the screen with the list of all the apps installed on the device), search for the term "HDB" in the top bar, tap on the item Allow the use of HDB that appears in the search results and moves to ON the function lever Allow the use of HDB.
Now you can connect your smartphone (or tablet) to the Mac using the supplied USB cable. Once this is done, confirm the communication between the two devices by placing the check mark next to the item Always allow HiSuite connection from this computer that appears on the device and press the button OK. If, after establishing the connection between your phone (or tablet) and Mac, you are asked to update HiSuite, accept.
Well: now all you have to do is select an option from Photos, Video e Fillet from the left sidebar (to view photos, videos and documents on the device), choose the elements of your interest (to select multiple files at the same time, use the combination cmd + click) and create a backup copy on your Mac by clicking on the button Export located at the bottom right and selecting the folder in which to save the data. Easier than that ?!
Android File Transfer
If HiSuite does not satisfy you or you are unable to make it work properly, you can contact Android File Transfer, a free application for macOS that allows you to access the files on the memory of Android terminals and, therefore, to save them on the computer.
To get Android File Transfer, connected to the official website of the program and click on the button Download now. Once the download is complete, open the dmg package you got, copy Android File Transfer to the folder Applications macOS and launch the software by double clicking on its icon. When the warning appears on the screen, answer apri. Then close the software by pressing the key combination cmd + q on your Mac keyboard.
Now, to access the files on the memory of your Huawei terminal, you need to connect it to the Mac (via USB cable). After that you need to expand the notification menu (by swiping from the top of the screen to the bottom) and you have to press the button Fillet, in order to set the USB connection mode that allows you to navigate between the files and folders hosted by the device.
The most is done: now start Android File Transfer (if it did not start by itself or it closed due to an error) and use it to browse the folders and files on the memory of your smartphone / tablet. To copy a file or folder on your Mac, all you have to do is select it and drag it to a folder of your choice (or on the macOS Desktop).
If your intention is to make a backup of photos and videos present on your Huawei terminal, you can take advantage Image capture: a utility present "standard" in macOS that allows, in fact, to import photos and videos from various types of devices (smartphones, scanners, digital cameras, etc.).
To use Image Capture with your Huawei smartphone or tablet, connect the device to the Mac using the supplied USB cable, then expand the notification menu Android (by swiping from the top of the screen to the bottom) and presses the button Photos, in order to set the USB connection mode that allows you to browse the photos and videos hosted on the device memory.
After that, start Image capture through its icon in the folder Other of the Launchpad and select the name of your smartphone or tablet from the left sidebar. Select, then the items to import to your computer (using the combination cmd + click) and drag them to the folder of your interest or, alternatively, click on the button Import to import them into the folder indicated in the drop-down menu Import into. By clicking on the button Import everything, you can import all the multimedia contents on the device memory to your computer in one go.
Google Data Synchronization
With the solutions just mentioned, you should have been able to copy most of the files from your Huawei device to your Mac, but not them e-mail, the contacts, the Calendar or notes. To remedy this problem, you can take advantage of the Google data synchronization, which allows you to have the information in question synchronized on Android, macOS and all systems and devices on which the same Gmail account is configured.
To take advantage of data synchronization with Google, you must first go to the menu Settings> Accounts of your smartphone or tablet, select the item for Google, then yours Gmail indirizzo and check that the data synchronization levers are all active (otherwise you will have to activate them and wait a few minutes for the information to be synchronized with the "big G" servers).
With sync enabled, go to your Mac, open System preference (the gear icon located on the Dock bar) and go up Account Internet. In the window that opens, select the item related to Google, log in with the Gmail account data set on the Huawei terminal and select the options to synchronize email, contacts, Calendar e notes. By doing this, you will find Android email messages, contacts, calendars and notes on your Mac without having to physically connect your smartphone or tablet to your computer. Happy?
Come Fare Backup Huawei Online
Personally, I always recommend making a double backup of your data: one to keep locally (therefore on your computer) and one to keep in the cloud, then on the Internet.
In the specific case of Huawei devices equipped with Android, it is possible to take advantage of the Google data synchronization to have photos, videos, contacts, emails, app data and more saved on the cloud and synchronized on all your devices associated with the same Gmail account.
To proceed, open the app Settings Android (the gear icon on the home screen), go to Account > Google and select your address gmail. If a Google account has not yet been configured on the phone (or tablet), fix it immediately by pressing on the item Add account, then selecting the logo of Google from the screen that opens and entering the login details of your Gmail account. If you don't have a Gmail account yet, tap on the item Or create a new account and follow the procedure to create a Google account that is proposed to you.
At this point, go back to the menu Settings> Accounts> Google, select yours Gmail indirizzo and, if necessary, activate the levers relating to all the synchronization options: program , contacts, app data, Google Fit, people details, Drive, gmail, Google News , Google Play Movie, Google Play Books etc.
As for photos and videos, you can create an online backup and synchronize them on all your devices through Google Photos, the "big G" service that allows you to store photos and videos on the cloud at no cost and without space limits (accepting a resolution limit of 16MP for photos and 1080p for videos, otherwise you have to choose the plan that erodes the space available on Google Drive and sign up for a subscription to the latter, starting from 1,99 euro / month for 100GB of storage ).
To activate the free backup of photos and videos on Google Photos, start the official app of the service (which should already be present on the device or which, alternatively, you can download from the Play Store). Then press the ☰ button located at the top left, select the item Settings from the bar that appears on the side and go up Backup and synchronization.
Now, if not already there, move up ON the lever for the option Backup and synchronization, tap on the item Dimensioni cartoon and choose the item High quality from the box that is shown to you.
App Per Fare Backup Huawei
If you want, you can make a local backup of your data by working directly from Android. Just use some applications suitable for the purpose, such as those that I point out below. However, I recommend that you try to use an external card as a destination for backups or you will make all the work potentially in vain (as, in case of device reset, all data saved on its internal memory will be deleted).
- Huawei Backup - Huawei's official backup app. It allows you to save all the data on the devie, including photos, videos, contacts and messages, in a very simple way. In operation, it is quite closely reminiscent of HiSuite for computers.
- Titanium Backup - the world's most popular backup application for Android. It allows you to make complete backups of apps and data in a very simple way. You can use it for free, but a paid version is available (€ 6,49) that offers the possibility of making backups to the cloud, restoring applications in sequence (without having to "manually" confirm each of them), encryption and others extra features. To take full advantage of its features, you need to root Android. I told you about it in more detail in my tutorial on how to backup Android.
- Helium - another app dedicated to app and data backup. It works even without rooting, but connecting the phone to the computer. For more details, read my guide on how to backup Android.
- Huawei Phone Clone - if your purpose is not to backup your data, but to transfer data from one phone to another, try this official app from Huawei, which I told you about in detail in my tutorial on how to transfer data from one phone to another. iPhone to Huawei.
